Title: gear box/clutch problem
Post by: scottv6 on 25 January 2012, 19:48
I have a bit of a problem! Rite 1st thing the brake fluid light came on so topped it up and now it came on again so checked the level and it have dropped again, also im finding it hard to select gears? My dad seems to think that it could be the hydrolic clutch leakin as it used the same brake fluid as the brakes. What do you guys think it could be?

hi,your dad is right.it will prob be your slave cylinder in the box,if not the master cylinder on the pedal but 9 times out of 10 the slave goes

Check around the pedal area 1st and see if the master cylinder is leaking

iirc the master cylinder is around £30-£45. (or was when my clutch pedal went and smashed the master cylinder)
i found a full pedal on ebay though for £40 so bought that and just replaced the pedal including the frame/bracket ect. as it was easier

So do you think its the 1 behind the pedal or the 1 in the gear box?

If you're doing that replace the flywheel with a lightened single mass unit at the same time.

It will make an amazing difference to the way the car drives.
