Title: Disabling Oil Light
Post by: mrpatterson2008 on 24 January 2012, 14:35
Hi, i've got a mk4 golf, 2000 reg.  The oil light is always coming on but its just my cheap run about so i'm not going to bother fixing it.  However its really annoying having the light and sounder always coming on.

Does anyone know how to disable the light and sounder, or even just the sounder.. ( I don't mind a bodge job) lol

Cheers

Pressure

Have you checked the pressure, not good that it keeps coming on, you could be doing damage.

Oh im sure its doing damage.

No doubt it'll be alot of work to fix it tho?

The car has 133k on it, 1.4 16v. I was just going to buy a new one when it totally dies.  Or drop another engine in.

I would leave it, the engine could die tomorrow.

could it just be a simple fix like oil pick up pipe?

surely its better to get the problem sorted than be halfway home the car then dies and you have to get recoverd, could end up being you conk out on a really busyroad or a blind corner then someone crashes into you and its bye bye golf/bye bye having no accidents on insurance or could be worse.

Well how would i go about finding the problem ?

The reason i wanted it disabling is just because the beeping every ten minutes is annoying

if its something do with the pressure id say check oil level if its ok and there is no tapping or knocking, then it could be something as little as a pressure sensor if not then id say oil pump

the oil level is good but drops after a few days. there is a bit of knocking though.
