Anyone any ideas as why my clutch is slipping?
I realise its probably effed, but the clutch has a tendancy to "click" when pressed - doesn't do it all the time though.
It usually only slips in the higher gears as well - I can floor it in 1, 2, 3 and it generally ok - just 4 anf 5!
The cable looks new.

What car is it, has it had a clutch ?. If it is worn or contaminated, it will slip in the higher gears.

On another car I had the same sounding problem. It was the self adjusting 'ratchet' system at the top of the clutch pedal. Kept clicking & slipping.
All being well its just that just needing replacing. If not, your clutch is on its way out.

1990 16v! sorry forgot to mention that bit!
had it in garage, and its had a recent cable, but its only a cheapy motor factors one. Its pulling through it housing on the clutch so I've been advised to get a genuine VW, which won't slip.

got the genuine VW cable fitted (£30!), and was great for a few days, but has started clicking again!
Only starts to click though when engine has well warmed up - what is going on??
It feels like a "mechaical" click if that makes any sense - like something is stopping the cable returning fully and allowing the clutch to engage - any ideas???
Anything to do with tha actual pedal?
Cheers

I get the same thing, it sticks at the biting point briefly, then 'clicks' and you have to lift the pedal higher to get to the real biting point. Makes pulling away a fun experience :(
I've tracked the noise to the gearbox so summat aint right in there, after a new cable its still the same.

annouying to say the least - hasn't happened in 60 miles today!
Was still clicking though, about 3/4s of the way down, i can feel the click through my shoe!
I'm going to get a spare pair of legs so I can have a look see.
