Title: Birdsong BBC1
Post by: MAW73 on 22 January 2012, 22:39
Just wached the first part. I thought that was excellent. A really poignant story.

Well worth the TV licence money for a change!

Looking forward to part 2 now.

Hard to believe that only 100 years ago, normal folk like us would have been in the trenches.

I'd like to do one of those batterfield tours one day and pay my respects to those brave men.

Excellent program I thought, and look forward to part 2..

My Grandad, who was 17 at the time, had both feet blown off by a land mine during WW1, gangrene set in, and had dozens of operations over the next 50+ years, till eventually his legs were removed at the top of his thighs, he went though 60 years of hell, till he died in the mid 70s...
He never received any compensation, or benefits, and was simply left to get on with it!
Thank God that things are different now, for those that choose to join the Armed Forces, the system may not be perfect, but it could be a whole lot worse.
