VR6SC - 292 BHP + 260 FT LB
1.8T BAM - 285 BHP + 300+ FT LB - All guess work but the mods I am looking at look about right if that makes sense?

I am not a mechanic, just a player but the lighten flywheel you gain and lose some benefits. E.g. the engine is more free revving but on hills you loose some power due to the reduced mass.

But if you got it balanced with a clutch, I am guessing is more harmonic and you reduce plate friction?

Again I am not 100% sure, but thats my basic understanding.

You have to rev a bit more to pull away but thats the only downside and you get used to that pretty quick. You dont lose power/torque, but you will have enough on tap anyway, and you won't be spending much time between 1000-1500rpm anyway.
Less mass to rotate makes it rev quicker and acts as if the car is lighter.

An 02A flywheel gets balanced on its own.

Here what i had done. From around 10kg to around 5.5kg

Hotgolf on CGTI. Clutch don't need balancing.

Cheers Russ, Ill keep him in mind. I did see a deal on ebay for a g60 flywheel lightened/balanced + Sachs clutch but as with any build, money goes here and there. Then runs dry.

Hey Toby, no mate, but...Ben did take her out. She is running a conservative 10 psi at the moment and we will be pushing her up to 18 psi +. This is not peak boost.
Title: Re: Funkyfive and his Golf Mk3 Cupra R ride
Post by: funkyfive on 26 January 2012, 20:25
18 psi is the max, I will run. So the plan is to sort the rear engine mount out as its knocking and check out the boost pipes for moment. I also still need to wire in the EGT sensor and wide band.

JDM are going to map it, I will run close looped with a wideband lambda instead of adaptive mapping. From what I understanding adaptive mapping makes live changes to the ECU and the closed loop setup with wideband can be set with 10% threshold so it's allow some protection to prevent detonation.

Lots to learn but I m looking forward too it!

Power wise I looking for 250 - 260 bhp, 280 ft lb. So it's similar to a stage 2 revo map.

they are a direct swap are those clocks, should be no issues, i dunno how your wiring is mate with you using hacked looms for emerald  (never used emerald so no idea what is involved)

have you checked the switch on the actual handbrake ??

I put the old clocks in and there was no issue. And I did not really check out the switch. I will give it a go tomorrow. In the mean time I removed the bulb lol.

Cheers fella.

Lots to fix still, I need another VR6 fuel pump, fix the Ibiza Clocks issue, relocate the washer bottle, relocate the coolant bottle, get a proper induction kit

after all of the above I need to find some to do custom pipework for the intercooler and then get it mapped correctly.

Its taken about 3 weeks to source the parts. To be honest please like Ben @ parsonsperformance and Brad aka kells have been helping me in the background.

I have loads of questions as there is always a need to tweak the setup. So its not quite finished maybe a few more months.

Well I've been quite for a while trying to sort out a few bits and bobs.

So I move the fast and furious gauge off the dash and put in the dash lol

Washer bottle has been relocated to the drives side

To make room for this

My only thought now is a bigger filter looking at either the Jetex or BMC universal ones with are 80mm I/D neck to replace the K&N? Oh excuse the blue pipe and rust, one day when I can be arsed I will sort it lol.

Jetex FC-08005 ordered. Replaced the fake Magneti Marelli Weber 2 Bar Map Sensor with a real 3 Bar, so I can run 18psi correctly.

So all thats needed is the customer inter cooler pipework and remap by Jim @ JDM Performance.

I got round to fitting the JR cone filter, thing is bloody massive compared to the K&N. The air saturation is alot better as well.

your old one can't have been a genuine K&N ?

The JR is fat compared to the K&N I have. Its the same one that is sold by Bill Badger with the 3inch TIP. Lol it better be good.

My old one is defo a K&N but came off my supercharger kit. So it was meant to be good for 300bhp.

Though I am not sure how they measure all of this lol

I have updated my blog with the print outs from the mapping session.

www.lovemelongtime.co.uk

I made 254 bhp and 270 ft lb of Torque. The results are not bad, there is more power there but I had issues with high air intake temperatures on high boost for long periods of time. So a few more tweaks including a new thermostat, radiator, spal fans and larger intercooler.

The reason the 1.8t is known so well in a Mk2 is its common and agreed a great combo. Have you driven both a Mk2 and Mk3 1.8t?

Regarding my statement about mk4 this is in a joke with Toby as he's a local lad and the tunnel run is due soon. I actually have no idea regarding the ton weight of a mk3 vr6 with a 1.8t vs a mk4 agu k04 to be honest, though it would be interesting to know the power to weight ratio?

I think you should easily smoke a MK4 thats mapped for out and out BHP mate
iv had 3 mk4's, admittedly non was huge power but they are a lot more lardy than a mk3.. or at least feel it

i easily held onto a MK5 Annie which has a new shape Audi S3 2.0 TSFI engine installed (mapped to 340 bhp) and the MK5 is lighter than a Mk4  (so i believe ? )

forget the BHP.... and also a lot comes down to the driver... and the actual car set up

smoke him and shut him the f**k up i say

Same fella I've not driven a mk4 1.8t, only been shotgun. Todys mk4 looks tidy and the power delivery is excellent and it's very different to mine!

I wouldn't call mine a beast but it's fairly quick, just tweaks to improve the performance. The same as you fella!

There are some sick cars on here.

Yeah I like the quality just need to make some home made brackets.

If you do need the pipework done ping me. Its better to use 4.5mm silicone just for the joins, so its 4 in total.

Been a while, so I thought I would put up update, I bought the below.

Momo 320mm race steering wheel

OMP boss with airbag defeat

Neuspeed front upper strut brace

Large universal intercooler 550mm x 225mm x 224mm (710mm overall length) 2.5in inlet and outlets

I am hoping the larger intercooler and custom pipework will reduce the air temps on boost for prolonged periods.
