Hi all. I now have a mk2 16v on twin side draft carbs and i have a bit of a clearence problem with the carbs. there isn't enough room to mount the airfilters because the radiator (+ fan + coolent pipe) is in the way. has anyone here had this problem? and what did you do? Ive tried using trumpets and sox before but they kinda went up in flames
Can you move the rad foward and use a (thiner)  kenlow fan?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers max.

im sure it would be just a case of fabricating some brackets and moving the radiator, might have to mod the slam panel
tho
and yeah i reckon a kenlow fan would be fine might be able to mount it on the front make sure its 2 speed tho

im sure on a mk2 u can drop the rad down to give u the room
-
Thats alright as long as it can be done without too much fabrication ill get on it this weekend.
So how / how hard / would it be to move it down.
Cheers for the help.

as far as i can remember all the holes should be there.
my mate had throttle bodies fitted to his car and i asked him about the clearance due to the massive trumpets he had (i was running twin 40's on my 16v at the time and like u i was pushed for room) and he said they drop the rad down. I think he said it now sits in hold that are there for g60's or some thing.
It was do at Grant Motorsport so try to give him a ring and im sure he will point u in the right direction.
i also remember him saying that it only works on a mk2 and not a mk1

Thanks i think ill try that first. Very nice car by the way, like it / what did you do to it to get 160 odd bhp out of it?
-
flowed head, oettinger inlet cam, twin 40's (webers)
168bhp/ 140 lb-ft
]
but im just running a std lump now while i 'try' to save for a 20v T

I see you have used sox for air filters. Have you ever had any trouble with them?
-
none wot so ever....if you can fit bed springs inside them to help them keep there shape too ;)

looked at the rad lastnight and i cant see any way of moving them down but it might be possible to move it right a touch. ? It is running on a driver rad at the moment if that makes any difference.
Cheers max.
