Title: £10K Mk2?
Post by: dubber36 on 21 January 2012, 20:12
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3517684.htm

First glance I spotted the rear lights, front spots with stickers on and armour door plates. What else is non original, and who the hell would pay that for it?

I'm all for pushing the price up on MK2's but that's ridiculous.

I suppose the plate might bump up the price if your Superted was your arch enemy.

I believe that these prices will become common place, especially that the economy is starting to pick up... seen it all before in the early 90s when the price of an E Type Jag shot up to 70 to 80k and more for the right car, yet only a few years earlier, you couldn't give them away, supply and demand is the name of the game.

other thing to think on is how many genuine rust free mk2's are about! aimed at the collector this is obviously.

Stickers, lights and door guards are all correct for the year. Nice car, is it worth the money? Maybe if you're a collector. If it was me I'd be looking for a mint very early 8v with the small bumpers.

Are you joking? prices look to be rock bottom at the min  :sad:are they likely to go up in the summer?
there just seems to be loads out there for £1500 which pisses me off as i paid 2K last march for my 90 8v gti and must have put another grand into it and think id struggle to get that back

Stickers, lights and door guards are all correct for the year. .

Stickers on the spots were never original, only aftermarket grille kits, or later replacement lights had them.

Rear light are correct for a non-runout 8v granted. I assumed it was a 16v due to it's bee sting. The aerial was a factory option, so I guess the data sticker would confirm that one.

Armour door plates, again were never original. Usually fitted to hide the signs of a break in.

other thing to think on is how many genuine rust free mk2's are about! aimed at the collector this is obviously.

There's no guarantee what you'll find behind the wheel arch extension and rear bumper around the towing eye on this one.

I saw a mint white mk2 gti on pistonheads with under 30000 miles and it was only 3000 grand. so I think this guys way over the mark with his price.
