Ok was fiddling with my new bora today and noticed to fit the 18" 8j wheels on the front the previous owner has fitted what look like about 6 mm spacer. But it still had the original wheel bolts.
What size spacer do you normaly need to use bigger bolts with? I am only getting maybe just under 3 full turns of the bolt at the moment. Is this safe?
-
Bolts are too short, you can use standard bolts with a 3mm or 5mm spacer, but to be safe you need longer bolts I suspect yours are 10mm
-
Thought so. Just tried everywhere to get some and nowhere sells them.

Ebay is your best bet

Ok just went and measured them. They are 5mm. And the packet they came in is still in the boot and that says 5mm aswell. So they should be ok then you think?

Yes but you said your only getting 3 turns which is nowhere near enough :undecided:
-
How many turns should I have ?
-
Just took wheel bolt out again to count exactly how many full turns till tight and it's only 2 and a half turns. Bloody hell. What size bolts you recon I should buy?
-
ok looking on ebay. my current wheel bolts are 25mm thread. should i get 35mm ones or 42mm ones?
also what size do i need there are diferant ones like 12x1.5 or 14x1.5
-
M14 x 1.5
Standard bolts are 27mm so 35mm bolts will do fine

saying that though even without the spacer only realy get about 4 turns of the bolt. should i get 40mm ones to be safe? am going to fit a 10mm spacer on one side at the rear to even it out. should i use 40mm bolts for that?
-
40mm for 10mm spacer
and 35mm for 5mm spacer
-

Wrong fit, you need taper for aftermarket alloys

Hard to see from the photo but aftermarket alloys normally use taper fit bolts, I think your using the wrong bolts.
Is it 100% that the bolts holes are rounded, might be worth checking with a straight edge.
-
also don't be fooled into thinking having more thread poking through the back makes the bolt stronger, it doesn't
