I have a '97 mk3 16v, and for a while now the driver side window refuses to budge! I can hear what sounds like the motor whwn i press the switch either up or down, but no movement  . I just thought i'd see if anyone could shed some light before i start taking apart the doorcard and pretending to know what i'm doing.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Sounds like you need a new mechanism which is common. You can pick one up pretty cheap in the breaking section.

Snapped wire in the A pillar rubber boot.

He said he could hear the motor running when he pushes the switch so a snapped wire in the mechanism maybe ??

sounds like the cable has snapped and tangled , it is running up and down the plastic grommet with groves common problem on these. :smug:

Depends, if the earth wire is snapped the motor just makes a small noise.

Been asked about a million hundred gazzilion and twelve times. Use the search function.

cheapest way to do it is to buy the frame, wire and runners off ebay, there is a guy who sells it as a kit and use your old motor if the guide roller isnt all chewed up. people breaking them still want about 50 quid for them.
