Title: opinions on BBS RS771 (or RS772)
Post by: simonparsons on 18 January 2012, 07:29
as above really - its the optional 16" alloy for the early MK4 GTi's

I am umming and erring about trying to find a set and wanted peoples opinions - i know 16" alloys are too small for most of you, but the similar styles in larger sizes are pricey (anni's are very nice but the price isnt), and i quite like the OEM look but the fact that they arent that common (or at least round my way they arent)

seperate note - the bilstein B4's and eibach pro kit went on yesterday and it looks nicer already - will give it a few weeks to settle down, but seems nice. top mounts were replaced at the same time and any bushes, etc that needed doing so will need to give that time to settle down and probably get the tracking done (someone said its worth doing after top mount change) - and will definately need it if i get the above as the ones on my car is the early GTi 15" 5 spoke ones

thanks all

Simon

P.S. does anyone have a set of these kicking around and in good nick by chance, who doesnt want silly money for them? i dont mind the idea of ones that need a little work as i need a side project. cheers

Love them. What colour are you putting them on?

Love them. What colour are you putting them on?

it depends on the state of the set i get - if they are in good nick and dont need a refurb i may stick with the standard colour, but if they need a refurb, i may add a little gun metal to the colour and get them a little darker than normal - darker colours tend to work well on red golfs (as your signature pic shows), although i probably wont go for black with that style as it may high some of the details in them

Thanks Rich - helpful as always! when i look though it shows up as RS II, but a lot of other sites suggest thats the style (although similar to the one i mention) thats on the Polo GTi. no massive issue though as i think they are the same 5x100 fitment (i know a lot of the polo's are 4 bolt fitment)

whats your opinion of them out of interest? i know they arent as nice as your anni's, but unless someone wants to let me have some shiny anni's within my budget then ill prob be heading this route. you dont fancy swapping your nice anni's for my 15" 5 spoke early GTi alloys? would save you some pennies on new tyres and all that

Hello mate, I have a set of those. They do look the part but a bit small for me, they needed a refurb when I got the car and did them in anthracite with a polished lip as they are split rim alloys

sounds just like what i was planning if the ones i get need a refurb.

that and im toying with getting a corrado again (if i ever get the money) in the nice dark blue and they look even better on those.

They are RX2's 100% they used 2 different widths as well, mk3 ones were wider, Polo GTI ones are 4x100 and one piece.

They are ok and as you say not something you see everyday. I would prefer some 17" Santa Monica though if im honest.

lol if i decide to go back to standard i will give you a shout

cheers all - some really good feedback

i had originally thought they were RX2's but then did an ebay search the other week which just came up with polo ones, and i stumbled across a 5x100 set which claimed to be RS771's, and then when i did a google images search it came up with loads of the right ones. I'm not doubting what everyone is saying, just airing what i noticed when searching

i know what you all mean about them looking a tad too small on a mk4 though - I'm kind of stuck in a catch 22 though as want to stick with the oem look, but don't have the budget for a set of anni's

as for santa monica's - i had considered them (and even bid on a set a while back), but as mine currently has 5 spoke alloys on, i just fancied something a bit different (last few cars have been 5 spoke alloys tbh - corrado, and 206 gti 180 - and before anyone asks, yes I'm gutted that i sold my corrado!)

will keep my eyes open over the next few weeks and see what i can find - not seen any anni's on ebay under £400 for genuine in a while and tbh thats normally starting price.

They are RX2's 100% but you can get non split rims as well, size wise 18"s needed on a mk4 really.

going to have to disagree with wayne here the ones in the picture you posted are RS771. RX2 rim bolts are closer together. Nothing to tell them apart really once they're bolted on but the number will be stamped in the back of the wheel.

the ones I have got are RS771 (stamped on them) and I'm really happy with them, but there didn't look to be much difference when you view them on cars (or in pictures)

cheers everyone for the help though.
