Title: cam belt water pump - No Air Conditioning
Post by: andrew.0 on 17 January 2012, 10:48
Hi all.

my gti 20v 1.8t has hit the 4 year/40000miles and i have to replace the cam belt plus water pump.

Ive got a mate who will fit this all for me for cheap if i source the parts.

I had some problems sourcing the starter motor when i fitted it and ended up going to a VW dealer and fitted myself, after ebay let me down twice.

Any help on sourcing a cam belt without air conditioning, a water pump and a tensioner would be great appreciated :)

Also does anyone know if my model is quite rare to have 1.8t without air con?

Eurocarparts only need reg number, make sure get belt kit with damper rather than just roller.

Excellent thank you both.

You wouldnt happen to know how much i should be expecting to pay for a remap, and to get some lower suspension??

Are these parts ok? Thought it may be an idea to buy gen on these, I bought mine from unipart, fcuked around fitting it, now it ticks for a min when cold start! A little bit of belt slip solves this issue but thats not the point.

I'm based down near gatwick airport. I would definately like to get more bhp out of it.

I picked it up for about £1300, but would really love to put some time into it, as the previous owner let it get a bit battered, the alloys are as good as ruined, and there original split rims.

It runs fine, but i imagine the gearbox wil go first, as that quite notchey.

Even tho vw say you never need to but changing the oil in the gearbox that can sort some problems with it.
