Just answered some questions about gravity, the moon and tides, that I thought I knew the answers to!
Thom

? Something other that gravity and ebb and flow - gravitational pull etc..
-
gravity holds us down, the moon is made of cheese, and tides are used for surfing.
all i need to know
was watching a bit of that program, but now turned over to watch some comedy thing

Yeah knew all that, but never gave anymore thought, that the water stays pulled towards the moon, and its the spinning of the earth that controls the tides... obvious now

what did you think it was? The moon swaying across to and fro?

Dont know what I thought Jay, never really thought about it since school days... the point being though, that Brian Cox is an expert on making things clear, and simple

He's awesomely smug!

Am I the only person to hate his voice / way he speaks, he was on Radio 2 earlier and I had to switch off.

Ive been watching his programs lately and the mad truely is a genious. He knows everything about anything and makes it relatable to everyday life.
Keep up the good work.
And thankyou for answering the tides questions that i always get asked by friends/family/new aquaintances when the find out my line of work....

Nope, I found his initial programmes fresh to start with but his delivery is very smug, self indulgent and tiresome now.
The To Boldy Go with Kevin Fong has been more enjoyable.

Don't worry, they've just watched a couple of Wonders of the Universe and now think they're Quantum Physicists.

The wife loves him. Goes on about how it would be great to have a conversation with someone so knowledgable and clever and how he makes the most complicated things understandable. Also something about him being sophisticated & articulate. I just said, b0llocks, he's gay.

He should have stuck to Pop Music!

I actually saw D-Ream back in the day at Derby Assembly Rooms. :lipsrsealed:
-
Was it really D-ream? He must be a Labour supporter then!
-
Yes it was D-ream, whether or not he's a Labour supporter I don't know but you'd like to think they got a good deal on usage royalties.

In other words she'd shag him

So did he also explain why there are spring and neep tides?

No, that's Nadal. She would actually want to talk to Brian Cox. :nerd:

I LOVE him and watch all his shows
Loved the 'if you believe this is a UFO you should turn over to celebrity big brother' comment last night
I also liked the demonstration of how planets curve space time, that was neat.

Stargazing time!

John Bishop on it last night, love him too so that was great!

I always find these shows a bit slow and repetative, they also try to impress the viewer with half the story to make quantum ideas sound amazing, which they are, but they go a bitt ott.
Like telling you a particle can be in one place then on the other side of the universe in the next instant. Its not really like that, its a possibility, but such a small one it never happen. Altough Brian did actually run therough the maths to show this on one programme....
Its good, to share these ideas and understandings of things though, but it would be nice if a series of programmes went into more detail.
But perhaps thats what books and physics degrees are for.
