Hi ive just brought a new golf tdi 1.6 105 bhp 7spd dsg, i wanted to know what MPG do you guys get if u have one or a similar model, im currentely getting around 42.5MPG thats all local driving not moterway, the car has done 850 miles i brought it brand new. hope you guys can help cheers.

Lots of people are experiencing low mpg on the 1.6 TDI as you have to murder it to get anywhere.
What kind of driving are you doing?
If I drive "fast" I'll see around 45-50mpg.
If I take it easy I can be around 70mpg from my gtd but that's driving like a saint around 58mph and I do a lot of motorway mileage.
-
Well I do drive with a heavy foot, like putting my foot down. on the motorway i see 60mpg straight away and thats driving around 15 miles on it I've not done a long journey in it yet, but local I'm getting around 500 to a tank. Your gtd is really good on diesel getting better figures them me. Well this is the first time ive got 500 because ie only done 850 so far, will my MPG get better?

http://www.spritmonitor.de/en (http://www.spritmonitor.de/en) lists 20 DSG 1.6 diesels with a range of fuel consumption between 47 and 58, with an average of 52.6mpg
It also lists 25 DSG GTD's with a range between 27 and 52, with an average of 38.7mpg.
Just the facts ma'am...

I'd drive with a lighter foot and see how you get on.

Indeed, I think most GTD drivers kick the life of them from dusk until dawn
There are a few other GTD drivers on here that get more mpg than I do on a regular basis, most don't

Thanks for the figures, the link doesn't seem to work for me is it working for anyone else ??

http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ (http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/) and use the search function. If you're concerned about 1.6 diesels different to yours in the results, limit it to, say, 2010-2012 models.
Basically, all the manufacturers figures are BS.
oh, and I think you'll need to register on the site if you want MPG not l/100km

Well that seems low for a 1.6 TDI even for local running thats the same mpg as mine.

I see other 1.6 TDI owners on other forums getting 53-60mpg.

bit Jekyll and Hyde my motoring on a GTD manual..

I did have one salesman say to me that I would likely see "better economy from the 170 unit than raggin' the nuts off a blue motion model" if I was doing longer distance in real world driving.
-
Hi guys, thanks for all the help the "fuelly" web site is really useful, looking on there at the two members profiles i see that you do get better MPG then me, but you do more moterway milage then me too, but for the gtd it is really good, love both of the GTDs ,

i see that you do get better MPG then me, but you do more moterway milage then me too,
70% of my journeys are local running.

Was that me? It is true : )

I can return 60mpg on average over a 110 mile trip on the motorway on a none winter morning at a steady 70mph. And that is literally sitting at 70mph the entire way on cruise and only slowing down if I cannot pull out to the middle of far lanes and then bringing it back to 70 using the resume feature.

Alas it wasn't, actually, well you might have done but my giddy excitement of picking her up might have made me forget that particular conversation.
It was the same guy who said he always now asked what profession someone did when he was out on a test drive after once saying to a traffic officer he "shouldn't worry the Scirocco has a small rear view mirror, you don't buy a car like this to look backwards!!" .. Brilliant!

I am ashamed to be driving a golf match 1.6 tdi blue motion dsg. It is not the best on fuel! Although I have only just cracked the 200 mile barrier in it. Will keep people up to date with it's mpg. At this stage I can say my revo'd Gtd was more economical.

I have just had 3 weeks in a 2000 mile old Match 1.6 TDI BMT (manual)
I did around 1300 miles of mainly rural journeys driving it as I would my own 2.0 GT TDI. The 1.6 indicated 58.4mpg on the trip computer. The 2.0 usually betters that by doing 60mpg over a full tank of diesel according to the trip, but when worked out mathematically, the reality is 57mpg. Very roughly, that would give the 1.6 a true average of 55mpg.
I did one journey of around 20 miles, just following the lines of lorrys on an A road, and saw nearly 80mpg. The 2.0 will do that as well.
I concluded that anything other than stop start town driving, the 1.6 with BMT is a load of b0llox. I'd rather spend the extra few quid and £90 RFL and have a bit more grunt.

My 140 TD was seeing figures of 50mpg on my journey to work every day, with one 3 mile motorway stretch being extremely spirited.
Now on the exact same journey I'm lucky if it hits the 40mpg mark. This is since it had its 2nd year service.
Are the dealers likely to have altered something to decrease the mpg so dramatically?
In fact I had it up to 70mpg once on some town driving but again after the recent service I'm lucky if it hits 40 odd in the town!!!
-
think we may have to up our game lads:

Thats fantastic really 925 miles to a tank. 50mph is the optimum speed obviously.
-
Well they had a Passat doing 1527 miles on a tank (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/articles/2010/10/cars/volkswagen/passat/vw-passat-1527-miles-on-one-tank) a couple of years ago.

Cold weather kills diesel fuel economy btw

Cheers Doc. Just seemed a bit drastic compared to how it was before the service.

On you
-
you could have knocked the tracking out...maybe go for a 4-wheel alignment. My economies taken a plunge in the cold, far too much heating the car up and seat warming going on!!!!

Had loads of customer in recently..................
