Title: Mk3 tdi underpowered need help asap!
Post by: Li-D on 13 January 2012, 22:21
Hi ive got a mk3 golf tdi, its done 127k and has full service, all stamps etc...

But since ive had it, it seems rather under powered and very flat on full acceleration. Doesnt smoke or make any funny noises etc... Hsve been told that running properly the turbo should be quiet which mine isnt csn clearly hear it which I thought was a good thing as ive never known any turbo to be quiet.

Have changed the coolant temp sensor as told to do that first and had made a minimal improvement now being told to change n75boost valve next. Was told that there meant to tick when ignition is turned on which 'guess what' mine doesnt.

Also when engine is started warm it revs too 2k then idles normally, doesn't do it when cooled down or started first time in morning.

Really wrecking my head now as want to get it sorted, as wanting to get it chipped by a mate anf sick of being seen off by a Corsa b 1.5td

Have you check the fuel pump timing using vag com? Sometime the pumps wear and cause retarded timing which affects the power output.

Try cleaning the air inlet housing, too much accumilated dirt, leaves can reduce the air intake which is very essential for an efficient combustion engine to perform. You see the more air intake you supply an engine plus fuel you get more power, your turbo could be overladen or overworked because the actual engine is not sufficienly supplying it with enough toque to the level of ravs the turbo is designed to kick in.Sort out this problem or else you may loose the turbo too.
