I'm slowly addressing the jobs that need doing on the new valver and the next one is to address the horrifically hard ride. Having had the wheels refurbed this week I was able to ascertain that it is lowered on Koni springs. I reckon the car was set up for track days in a recent life as it's so hard a ride it's unbelievable. Brill round corners but not remotely realistic on our roads.
My question to you all is what is the best route to returning it to something like an original ride and ride height (the car is totally original apart from the suspension so this is what I'd like to do). Awesome quoted £564 for a standard VW stock suspension set up plus £180 fitting. Surely I can just change the springs and save some money on that? If so, what to?
Your help is much appreciated as I am very much a novice on the suspension front.

had the konis on mine and hated it ..was stupid hard
ive sinse fitted second hand stnadard springs and its decent now , still have the koni dampers but its nice
eibach would be another choice , slightly lower than standard but comfy
id not be paying those prices , if you cant do it im sure a local member would swap it over for a few notes, isnt a huge job

Eibach for me... I've got them currently on mine...
Excellent compromise between Ride Quality & Performance...
I've also fitted Eibach ARB's Front & Rear again it stiffens it up but it's not OTT...
Do it yourself if you feel you're up to it... All you need are a set of spring compressors, slotted nut tool, allen key and a couple of sockets & breaker bar...

Funnily enough i just got a set of eibachs springs and boge dampers.I only bought them for the dampers as i have had them before and i like them.I was also going to take the eibchs off them and put my gmaxs on but if they are good ill leave them.Im unsure of drop tho

This is indeed good news - far cheaper than an original stock set up.

I just looked at the link and managed to work out the drop on mine as my code is e8509.My springs are only 20mm drop so will be coming off as 20 is not low enough for me.

Can anyone tell from the picture below what the current drop on mine is likely to be? Those Eibachs drop it up to 40mm and I quite like the current look of the car - the ride comfort is the issue. So if the new ones improve the ride and maintain the look at the same time that's a winner.

That looks like a 60mm drop... 40mm would be a 30mm on a valver!

those Eibachs are 40mm so it'll raise it a bit - good for the speed bump ridden roads we have round here!!!
