Title: Screaming and hair pulling - RNS510 - New GTD
Post by: naa on 13 January 2012, 12:05
Apart from all the rattles - everywhere on new GTD - the one thing that is really getting to me is using my ipod with the RNS510.

All I want is to be able to return to the artist/album list without having to reach across to the ridiculous little folder icon in the left hand corner of the screen and then press it about 5 times before I get the list

Have tried all voice commands and they don't take me back to anything other than the album/artist that I am on and the back button on the steering wheel doesn't work - with anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Also, when album has finished it just starts again instead of going on to next album so need to keep pressing stupid folder icon to get back to main menu.

Also don't seem to be able to record a voice tag for this.  Manual says "when the 'voice tag' function button is displayed in an menu, you can record your own voice command"  Don't seem to get a 'voice tag' function button in any menu.

The whole thing is making me scream and makes using ipod almost impossible while you are driving.   Help Help Help - Pleeease - (looking for my straight jacket)

When I press selection it just takes me to the list of tracks on the last album I was playing - then have to press the upper right hand folder icon several times to get back to the albums/artists menu.  Same happens with music on usb stick.

Completely off topic and of no help to Ann, but I've just realised that I've had my RNS 510 for two years now and it has been in two mk6s and yet I've never put a CD in it or used the iPod connection. What a bloody expensive AM radio that has turned out to be!!

Just thought I'd mention that...

Yep - just got a couple of SD cards - same menu option, ie still have to press stupid little icon to get full list of albums, but at least I can fast forward tracks and it will go on to the next album which I can't do with the ipod.  Technology - don't you just love it

I wonder if you have a later version RNS than the rest of us?
I've no idea whether an F verion works slightly differently to a C.
Mine is a B and it's a bit different to a C.

Hm - garage did say they had installed the latest software update on RNS510 although I don't know what that is.  Can I find out in some menu choice?

Yes, I think if you go through the various screens under SET UP or whatever it tells you eventually what firmware etc you are running.
I know you can find out just about everything about the unit when you plug in a VCDS diagnostic cable.

To OP: If your chosen album keeps re-playing, perhaps you have the Repeat function selected on the Media home screen?

Unfortunately no - I have been through all the menus.  Oh well - have just spent a few hours creating playlists and will see if that will work better.
