looking to change the gearbox on my 1991 8V MK2 as its stiff going into 2nd, a common fault so Im informed, replaced all the bushes, anyway looking for some advice on what gearbox codes & models I can use as a replacement, the clutch will be changed at the same time so thats not an issue.
Thanks in anticipation

Keep a standard gearbox on. There may be others with the same shape housing (ie: 020/02a whatever), but ratios will be different on almost all others that use the same box. Either way, you will lose something either down low, or top end by changing. Unless your. Gonna swap individual gearing around (mega costs involved) then your better off staying standard IMO.

have you tried changing the oil in the box you have? can make a massive difference if its never been done

Thanks for the replys, i will keep with a standard box, no i havent changed the oil yet, will try that first as its the cheaper option, gearbox isnt that bad its just stiff getting into 1st when rolling at traffic lights.

That's pretty standard. Weak synchromesh so you have to be almost at a standstill to select first. I've just adapted to it anyway.
