Title: Mk4 gti help
Post by: denni on 11 January 2012, 20:27
Can anyone help me with my mk4 golf gti.... I was driving along and the car made a bang sort of noise kin of like a back fire then cut out, started again and cut out 10-15 yards down the road. Now it starts if i pump te throtle then cuts out. The is no oil or anything anywhere. Im thinking its to do with fuel? There is fuel in it and the fuel light has not come on. Cheers

In that case, sounds like you've popped a boost hose off. You can unplug the maf temporarily to trick the car into thinking the air isn't escaping which will keep the engine running long enough to get you home (albeit rather rich and obviously with no boost). Intercooler ones are likely suspects as is the one down the back of the engine that goes over the O/S driveshaft.
