Title: My Edition 35 <3
Post by: kane1210 on 10 January 2012, 21:04
Well picked it up on friday Golf Gti Edition 35, 5 door dsg (which i love) sat nav, parking sensors, 19 inch glendales in Tornado Red.  (what a colour)

Im over the moon ! I had a MK5 GTI and always had Edition 30 envy when i saw one with there nice colour coded bumper and awesome pescara alloys. Well i think i can honestly say at the moment im not jealous of anything , the edition 35 come fully loaded leather xenons bluetooth and all the trimmings!!

The engine is just a massive improvement for me on the 2.0 i had in the scirocco GT just got more body to it and a little more grunt!

Anyway after picking it up friday i found out after some tampering with the MFD that my car had came with a misbuild! hahaha

they hadnt installed the bluetooth at the factory which im a little peeved about means more messing about with the dealer but they rang today and apparently a company called VAGTECH are going to come and retrofit it at my house....Chuffed (anyone had experience with these guys)

Hope its all ok and it is installed as its meant to be at the factory. (fingers crossed)

Oh and if anyone else has brought the Edition 35 it states in the spec that you get the Edition 35 keyring so i asked about mine and they sent one to my house over the following days. (sweet)

Love the gti love the edition 35 even more!!

Very nice. I love the colour

Really like the wheels too, although I'm not convinced they suite the GTI. I think they'd look better on an R tbh.

There's a set of them on an RS5 near my house and it looks absolutely stunning.

 for the Golf and  for the Scirocco too.

The black wheels on the red car just looks so right.

Lovely motor! Now get it remapped!

I love the wheels... but agree the rear discs looks a little inadequate against those big 19" alloys!

I assume they're 19"... weird it doesn't have the little wheel spat things the R has on the arches:

They are 7.5" rather than 8" that R owners have. Make of that what you will...

I think the Ed35 is probably the best of the fast Golfs - and it looks great in red

Yes indeed smiffy; £33K for a new ED35 or £38K for a new R [both with my spec] or about £32K for a 12 month old R with similar spec and about 8k miles on the clock.
What do you get with the R? 31PS more and 4WD, is it worth it? You tell me. Alternatively [and I've been looking at this] a Porsche 911 [997] Carrera 4S about 5 or 6 years old with low mileage for about £40K. Only problem with the Porsche is that running costs are greatly increased.

It's a tough choice. I'd go for the 1 year old R or the 5/6 year old 997 Carrera 4S as the 4WD means they'll put the power down better on the damp UK roads. Also, means they're practical in snowy conditions.

Would you be interested in a 2 year old R with 28K on the clock? I know one potentially coming up for sale soon.

Does the R have a wider rear track as well, being 4WD?

I'm also in the camp that's not keen on the wheels. There is one in the showroom at South Hereford Garages at the moment, and I just can't take to them.

Couldnt justify an R as absolutely awesome as they R (get it)

Petrol would kill me the amount of miles i do at the weekend.   im feeling the difference in MPG already

As for the wheel comments I know what you mean but like with everyone each there own i suppose!

Hey man, car looks awsome. Not a fan of red but that looks the nuts!

Not to take anything away from your purchase, but I don't like the wheels (although I've only ever seen them in pics). Theres a similar style on RS3/TTRS etc and they look great in the metal. Wheels are all down to personal preference, if you like them then that's all that matters.

Enjoy the car mate, very rare.

Detritus.

So you're saying that the difference in fuel consumption between an 'R' and an ED35 would kill you??

It's only 1.7mpg different??

Thats £90 for every 10,000 miles!!

No thanks smiffy, too much mileage and would want one a bit newer anyway. I'd be very particular about the spec too, so it may take me a while to find what I'm after.

they're always by far the best price on anything I've bought for the GTI and I've found the customer service pretty good to be honest apart from almost everything i.e. bought not being in stock and getting the automated email

saved over £50 on milltek and £50 on whiteline bump steer kit compared to competitors pricing so i can't argue with the at all and when they do ship the items its always with a good currier who emails you a 1 hour time slot for delivery. spot on in my opinion.

STOP SHOUTING!!
Okay, you're cross, but please.

Welcome to the site Martini. Yeah, you should have bought an R.
Aside from that, as Jimble said, you got what was advertised for the UK. Have a word with the dealer about the keyring and I'm sure one will appear. The other things are just small cosmetic details, if you'd have read up on here before ordering you'd be familiar with the fact that 35 years is no biggie important anniversary and the model is just a run-out special with a souped up mk5 engine and a Bluemotion front bumper.
Enjoy it for what it is, a potential 300 bhp Golf GTI with nice wheels.

Its a real shame that you arent happy. The way I believe it the half leather seats was only ever the concept? Due to the fact that they had put leather and bluetooth in the GTD & GTi as standardthen they had to make sure the 35 was the same. Exonian is right, the annisversary models have alwyas been a GTi with afew more bells and whistles.

I couldn't give a to$$ about the 35 logo on the seats, that's what i wasn't keen on in the 25th aniversary plastered over the seat's as if you need to be reminded of what you are in, subtle is the way forward imo.

It wasn't concept only, all the Euro cars have the option of half leather or cloth with th 35 logos on.

It must have been VW UK thinking that offering leather only would show better value on an overpriced GTi, in a bid to shift more.

I don't mind leather, but it at least needs to have contrast stiching, its just too dark and boring.

Not that it will bother many people here, but it is nice to have all the correct bits and bobs when the cars are 20 odd years old. My Mk2 16V still has it's original special 16V keys. Not many owners of Mk2 16V's even know they originally had a different key as they have been swapped at sometime during the cars life.

I couldn't give a to$$ about the 35 logo on the seats, that's what i wasn't keen on in the 25th aniversary plastered over the seat's as if you need to be reminded of what you are in, subtle is the way forward imo.

I appriciate having the right bits etc as I used to restore escort rs2000's and travelled all over the country for original parts. I have all the right bits for uk ed35 bar keyring which is easily sorted

I agree - when one is spending in the region of £30k on at new car then what is wrong with 'wanting' exactly what you are after??
Im happy with my car thats why I bought it

Sorry to hear some aren't fully satisfied with their purchases.

Would I get a slap if I said "Should have just got a GTI?"

But in all seriousness, I wouldn't really be too bothered. Yes it is disappointing that something you were expecting has not been provided but, if I'm really honest, I thought the 35 branding everywhere was a bit garish. And most people IIRC actually wished there had been half leather seats rather than the full leather options.

Because a GTI aint a GTI without some tartan!

Actually it does not say anywhere that the seats come with the 35 logo, I believe the 35 on the seats was for the European market only.

The quoted extras for the 35 are red stripes on the seatbelts and 35 kickplates.
