Title: Glossop
Post by: bobbarley on 09 January 2012, 22:45
Does any body know much about he place?  Was looking at areas to live, and to be honest it looks quite nice!  Near to lots of country side, excellent links to Manchester, plus they have pretty fast broadband

f**king pig to get through at the best of times, links to the sheffield side across woodhead and snake pass are frequently closed.

Fantastic countryside on the door step though

Depends, age wise I think average age is about 45ish, it is quite pricey for things like fuel as well being surrounded by miles of peaks. Heaving in summer as well, do get some nice 2 wheeled machinery passing through too.

I'd probably consider it if I was a bit older

As Slick says, a b!tch to get out of in the winter, both the snake & woodhead are plagued with rossi wannabe's all summer.

Beautiful countryside as you say, not sure about schools etc. though  :undecided:

Some bits look nice but some of the back areas look like any other council estate to be honest. Very bad traffic, been stuck there more times than I care to mention (I live at the other end of Woodhead)

I think if you continued looking around that general area of the north peaks you could find somewhere nicer with equally good links to manc

No that's Chapel-en-le-Frith

And Glossop is nice but make sure it's not the hattersley end. Rough as a badgers down there. Traffic is a nightmare at rush hours but proper chilled. New Mills is just a bit further over, and a bit calmer with traffic but further away.

Don't forget Roston Vasey was based near there...

Missed the rest of the thread on the phone screen

And chapels okay!!!

Whaley Bridge is my best bet or Bollington as that hooks up to either A6 or A34 to the M60. And both good areas with good schools.  Pricey tho

Looking for somewhere nice to move in the future to bring the family up in, Glossop seemed quite nice.  Plus being near the Peak district is brilliant.

I'd happily live in Buxton just so I had a constant supply of the pork pies from Mycock's Butchers.
Best pork pies in the world.
