Hi Everyone
this is my first post(well first post asking questions anyway) I ordered my first ever vw back in october 2011 at breeze vw in poole dorset, but before up grading I owned a suzuki swift which I loved....well when I ordered my golf which is a GTD 5dr in white with dsg leather as std and sat nav, f & r parking sensor and tyre pressure reg, and I 've also managed to get a personalised number ST12GTD for a bargain price...
The dealer said I should expect delivery in march....well just before crimbo I was given a provisional build date of week5(about the 5th feb and I went into the dealer just after new year who said that my build date has been confirmed and should be able to take delivery of the car on the 2nd march which is great news...
The reason for the title above is, I really like the charleston's and have asked my dealer is there anyway I could add them to the order which I then was hit with this response...
Hey Steve,
Now the car has gone 'production confirmed' we can't alter the physical specs. I may be able to possibly swap wheels when it gets here but this has to be authorised by the sales controller and we would need a similar car available (which may be unlikely). I will be in touch on that point!
Well has anyone asked a similar question and if so how did you get on?... Now I know the gtd is rare at the moment so to be honest I'm not confident, I would appreciate people's thoughts and opinions...
Thanks
Steve
a few pics of the swift..

How it looked before changing wheels & bonnet....If I'm honest then I do prefer the look of it before...much more subtle!

That's a nice golf you ordered there ;-) It's going to be a long few weeks.

No mate... definitely not....to be honest the golf doesn't really need touching and with a 14mnth old girl the money generally goes on her....and the only reason I was able to afford the gtd was my grandads sad passing, he generously left my family some money....he suffered from Alzheimer's disease ''bless him''
RIP grandad!!

If you can afford it (I appreciate that not many can these days), but how about buying a new set of Charleston Shadows and tyres yourself, then sell the as new tyres from your standard wheels, leaving you with a nice set of 17's to fit winter tyres to next year? (or this year, but you know what I mean)

I don't know if its altering the spec of the car or changing them with another model that your question is about but once the build week has been confirmed there is nothing you can do apart from to pull the order and start again. Basically because all the components for your car will be winging their way to the production line or at least that is what VW say. I'm sure they could do it if they really wanted to but I suppose there needs to be a cut off point somewhere.
I wanted to add an extra to my car having been told on the Friday I still never had a confirmed build date so thought come Monday it would have been fine. However I was told by the salesman it had went to a production date so was too late but he would phone VW head office but he came back with the same story so I phoned 3 different times throughout the day (not that I didn't believe them!!) and was told by 2 folk the order would need to be cancelled and the other person said they would phone the factory direct on my behalf but eventually said the same as the other 2.
What wheels are coming on the car? You would easily be able to sell them at a decent price which would help with the price of the new wheels.

I'm getting the standard seattles with the motor....i won't be to disappointed if I'm not able to get the charleston's as the car is already well spec'd, I just wanted to know if someone else had tried to do something similar and if you personally tried the same sort of thing and wasn't able to change specs then I very much doubt I will have much luck....el well thanks for everyones in put!! I will post up again once I have more info on the car.......I just hope march arrives soon

Phone your dealer and ask for the vehicle commission number. You can then phone VW UK Customer Care 0800 0833 914 and see if your build is locked or not. If not you can add to it.
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=125971.0 was my query about adding to the car.
You definitely need to have a look here

Once the build week is confirmed there is not a hope of changing or adding the spec. Surely if the dealer could add the wheels he would..........why question it?

My dealer is a real genuine guy and I get on with him well, besides I have a mate who works at my dealers and Im sure if he could do something he would, like you say he would if he could...Marc(my dealer) said that there might be a possibility to swap wheels if there is another gtd in the local area at the time mine gets to them....I will just have to wait and see, but like already said I'm more than happy with my spec, it was just an after thought...
