well as a few of you may know HID's are now part of the new 2012 MOT, and if you dont have washers and leveler's then your going to get a nice fail :( my question is has anyone came across an alternative bulb to the crappy standard yellow ones that produce a nice crisp white light but are not HID's and are legal on uk roads?
cheers :)

osram nightbreakers

if self levelling cannot be tested you must be given the benefit of the doubt. Washers have to be there though
-
i "think" that if you do the R32 wishbone mod then you might be able to retrofit self leveling headlamps if you fit the R32 headlamps too.
-
Oh no not again.............. :lipsrsealed:
You wont find anything as bright as HID's (a good thing  ) but upgrade halagon bulbs by the likes of osram and phillips are ideal.

osram nightbreakers
+1 got them and much much better

I've got Nightbreaker plus' in mine, they are considerably whiter than standard but nowhere near hid's.
-
nightbreakers only have 30% of the life compared to standard bulbs. they are an improvement over standards
-
or just buy a golf with xenons fitted as standard

where did you get that?

washers don't look too hard to fit, just find some flush fit ones on a car in the scrappy. Just need a separate pump and the bigger washer bottle, plumb it all in, done (I'm saying this like I will be doing it soon )

Apparently the original ones only had a short life but the Nightbreaker Plus are much better which means more expensive!!

I removed my HIDs the other day and fitted Osrams the other day...now, only now it seems people are flashing me as if to say turn your hi beam off! Whats going? They're f**king uprated bulbs not HIDs...
What 'level' do you all have your scroll light switch on, the small one on right hand side?
-
i found this ^^
i have HIDs, also when your driving around you can tell who has HIDs and i have never in my life thought any are too bright. on the other hand i see a lot of new (probably like 2008 onward) cars whos headlights are majorly too bright.

the load adjuster should always be set on 0 for driving with normal loads. It is tested on 0 on the MOT

Make sure your bulbs are getting over 12v when the engine is running, especially you boys with older golfs!
mine were getting 9v, they were like candles. I was considering HIDs but all I really needed was an uprated headlamp loom to supply the correct voltage to the lamps. Made one myself, works a treat. The headlamps are now awesome.
