Hi guys.
I'm looking into getting a mk4 golf. i recently crashed my van in the snow and i've scrapped it.
A gti 2.0 has come up for sale local to me,its a bit tatty but i only want it for about 5 months as a run around, come the summer i'll be getting some thing newer.
Is there a reason that the badge on the bootlid says 2.0 and not gti ? seems strange.
Not interested in power as its only to and from work..120 miles a day...are they pretty reliable for that ?
Im not clued up on mk4's at all..sorry lol
cheers

Whether they use gti or 2.0 depends on what badges they had available at the time, I would say go for a turbo diesel variant, the 2.0 isn't the most economical of the range.

2.0 is an awful engine :undecided:

Yep its not really classed as a "GTI" it was highline in other countries .
I would avoid as said and get a diesel - PD

Cheers guys, its a y reg 2001 and its only 450.
I just need something pronto..i've looked into the gtdi's,i've only got £1300 at the mo untill i get my tax rebate in june/july they seem to hold their value well..as they do. lol.
Theres a focus near me 1.8 td...but bits of rust coming through, thats put me off really.
But as soon as i get cash together i'm thinking of getting,maybe,mk5 or 6 golf tdi.
Whats the main reason for avoiding the 2.0 then..just the mpg ?or sh!te full stop lol
-
get a 1.8t
-
For your budget a better alternative would be a Mk3 :lipsrsealed:
Can pick up a decent 16v for under a grand and would be much better than a 2.0 Mk4

They are ok but drink oil and petrol , are under powered ( I know this is not an issue to you for what you need) come with all the other mk4 common faults.
A well looked after one would be ok but i have to ask what sort of car you will get for £450.
Maybe have a look you never know your luck - but i say it will be a dog.
