Title: My car fails to start----HELP!!!
Post by: cmp1378 on 14 May 2005, 13:06
I used my 1999 golf 1.8 20v this morning,no problems.Twenty minutes later went to start it and it fired up.......then cut out!!!!!
I've tried it several times since and same thing happened,I even tried the spare key!
I think it could the immobiliser, anyway it's now stuck at my local builders merchants!
Any ideas anybody.....please?

95% sure that it will be the immobiliser has lost its settings if its starting and then cutting out again. Do you have the MFA screen on your car? Should say 'Imobiliser activated' if this is the case.

my car now starts!!!!
took it to south hereford vw on a car trailer, they tried re-coding the keys,no joy!then they all went home leaving me to walk a mile so i could get a lift home(i live 20 miles from hereford).
following day they phone me telling me that they've traced the problem to the dash-pod!so they fitted me a new one(£180 + vat plus fitting!) and it all works now!
total bill...........................................................................£368.73!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CHEERS VW!!!
