Title: gearbox or clutch needed ???

 :cry: hi guys iv got a problem with my gearbox or clutch ??? one garage said clutch and one said box ????
when engine is off box is smooth and nice  when running but parked its hard to get in gear and when driving it changes easier but clipes sometime and always in reverse thanks for the help  :smiley:

also if i change clutch/ flywheel or box which ones would be best as im on a budget . its a golf 1.9 tdi 110bhp engine code (asv)

Yeah it would most likely be the singcro is damaged on the gears and that normally makes it harder to get the gear u want.
If the clutch had gone it would not effect the gear change, it would just slip and the engine would rev up and u would'nt be going any quicker.

Clutch drag (sticking friction plate? not enough freeplay in the cable) would cause hard selection/gear clipping and so also would gear selector cables in need of adjustment. Don't condemn the gearbox yet.
