Title: GTI Battery Size
Post by: orcades on 06 January 2012, 23:00
Hello All,

I've a 2009 GTI Mk6 and it seems like the battery is on its way out, well according to the Magic-Eye and a Battery Tester. However I thought it would be a simple matter of just ordering a new battery, but I'm a bit confused as to which one to get.

The battery in my car is a Varta 60ah one - however when I check the various websites for a replacement - most seem to state the battery should be approx 72ah. The one in the car is approx 242mm long, and the 72ah version is around 278mm long. I have measured the battery box and there appears to be room for the bigger battery, however I just wondered if I really need the bigger battery, or should I just stick with the size that's fitted.

I've searched the forum and Google for an answer, so apologies if this has been answered already. I'm just curious as to whether anybody else has the 60ah or 72ah battery.

Regards,

Warrenty Claim?
.......could try but don't think they ever covered battery's brakes or exhaust under warranty & it is an 09 reg.

I had a new genuine battery on my 2004 Passat last year, that failed and it was replaced by VW as is was covered for 3 years. I would imagine the same would certainly apply to the original battery on a car that is still less than 3 years old.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think the warranty covered the battery for three years, I was thinking it was just two years for the battery. So warranty claim would seem the best-course-of-action. The car still starts OK and everything, it's just the Magic Eye and tester seem to indicate the battery is past its best. However I could be wrong.

Thanks again,
