Title: What Alarm for Mk1 Cab?
Post by: Madone_si on 14 May 2005, 12:04
Hi all

I've noticed on my 92 GTI Cab that is has a Cobra 5320 alarm - but I've not got any remotes or the key to turn the alarm system on. I've mailed Cobra - with no reply, anyone know of any companies that may be able to help me out get remotes and keys as there are senors etc in the car already set-up.

If I have to replace the alarm - can I get an idea of what people are installing these days in there cars - really after alarm that will best for cab?

thanks.

waste of time and money trying to get replacement fobs for those factory fitted jobbies - you'll be safe with something like Toad Ai606 or a clifford

I've got a Lazerline in mine but that was inherited rather than me putting it on but I also had a Cobra micromave alarm installed on it too so that I can leave the roof down and it will go off if someone tries to put their hand into the car, it is quite sensitive and goes off if even if I push my hand on the roof when it's up, I would recommend something with that function on too.

The Toad A1606 has all the functionality you require - even for convertibles, so you can have it fully armed with roof down or you can have the car armed but interior sensors disarmed if you wish - its easy to use too - If you go for it expect to pay £220-£250 for the system inc installation.

Another recommendation for the AI606, I had one on the cab I have just sold. Fully customisable and excellent value for money

Don't do it mate  thats a flamin rip-off.

When I had one installed from a local installer (in Derby),2 years on my VR6 it only cost £290. If you find a better price a reputable dealer will usually price match

Good Luck!!

Does anyone know if you can buy alarm kits themselves like Toad, Clifford, etc, so I can install it myself?

I recently bought a Clifford matrix RS 3.5 from US ebay. Its going in my new MK3 Cabrio.

My MK1 Cabrio has an Arrow 3 with smart windows and smart start module with 4 sensors connected to it. No matter what the car cannot be driven away. I did all the wiring by myself. Piece of cake if you have the wiring diagrams of the MK1.
