The oil temperature gauge is currently non-responsive in the Golf I'm mucking about with.
I have five wires and no wiring diagram (had the gauge for a while!).
Can anyone help?
Red
Black
White
Green
Orange
White appears to be illumination, when combined with the black to the negative.
It's a couple of years old smoked-face gauge, with no branding (hence the issue).
Let me know if you know how it should be wired in!
The other issue is that I have a pair of sensors on the old 8V motor, one is a small sensor, with two wires off it (black and white) and the other is a big cylindrical thing, with a pair of screw-down terminals. I think the latter one is the oil pressure sensor. I have the other one fitted at the moment.
Cheers.

From the ones I have had and working from memory.
Black is earth, Red goes to the lighting switch, white is switched live so it lights with the ign on.
Green and orange are for the sender.

Eh? Red what lighting switch?

Red = Constant Live 12v +
Black = Ground/Neutral
White = Switched Ignition Live 12v +
Green = Goes to either Red or White wire on temp sensor
Orange = Headlights Switched Live 12v + (becomes live with headlights turned on)
Just spoke with a friend and he checked the diagram that he had with his gauge.

Okaaaay, so what about the other wire off the temp sensor on the motor? Ground it on the motor?

Yes :smiley: that is all you need to do.
Reference the senders, the smaller one is temp, the bigger one with a pair of screw-down terminals is the pressure sender.

Subject to finding a switched live I think that's sorted it.
Cheers. Now where can I find a switched live in this boat.... Radio? Our is there something easy to hook in to around the fuseboard?
