i think with slime you CAN repair the tyre after using it as its soluble in water unlike the foam stuff which wrecks the tyre and goes all over the car in the process.
the spare wheel and jack weight over 20kg so i wouldn't mind throwing them out.
all my recent cars have not had spare wheels but tyre inflation kits (mini cooper, cooper S, clio 198 and clio 197).

I had a Honda that didn't have a spare wheel only the tyre sealant stuff. I bought a space saver for it as I had visions of standing on the motorway hard shoulder, wind blowing, rain pissing down, shredded tyre with my can of tyre sealant in my hand

Very bleeding messy a complete waste of time and money when clean everything up to repair a pucture. Thats one reason I didn't have a new Honda Civic.

yeah tyre foam such as holts etc is very messy as it sprays out until it (hopefully!) seals
I've used it on bikes in an emergency to get me home and its a frickin nightmare to get off
the slime stuff is a different type and is meant to wash off with water and seal better as it comes with a pump etc.

I used he lupo GTI kit for a few years in the mk1. It did the job when i needed it. The only reason i removed the spare in that was to fit a custom sub box and audio install in there so not for a weight reason.
I don't know how far you want to go the weight saving route as theres a thread about it on the other forum.
Back in around 06 when Robin measured the GTI BBS 18s i was suprised they were 12.5Kg and VWs newer versions the Ronals are probably heavier than the previous BBS hollow technology wheels. Thats quite alot compared to something like the 9Kg team dynamics race pro 1.2 8x18 et50 which would equate to a 14Kg reduction.

Your just trying to convice me to sell you my wheels arent you!? lol
I think the ronal 18"s on the mk6 are over 13kg a wheel. An OZ ultraleggera is 7.8kg or something. That's a hell of a saving but IMO the monza shadows just look too good to swap!
I had a great deal on a set of The new style OZ superturismo LM's without tyres (my tyres swapped onto new rims) for £950 but I couldn't bring myself to take the monzas off!

Robin had exacly the same delema, he loves the monzas so so much he was even more pro monza than Asker!!
but he eventually gave in
