Title: starting and gear box issues please help

hi im new to this forum , iv just bought a 110bhp tdi estate and found i had probs from the start!!! the car had been running for hours so did not spot some of the probs and i could not test drive properly as had no v5 and tax any help you guys can give i would be really thankfull .
iv changed the cat as it was leaking out the flexi also done both wishbones and full service .

the probs at the mo are when i start no prob great starter but then goes lumpy up and down on the revs till its warm.
iv disconected the air flow and it stops but then dont drive properly so tried the temp sensor and that dont do anything ?
there is a whistle when i rev so not sure if it could be a turbo pipe leak causing it ? or vac pipe leaking i have looked for leaks on the vac pipes and found nothing . so im out of ideas really unless its egr which i have checked and it is drity and in need of cleaning ..

then the box ??? i had probs getting it in gear even tho the clutch feels good so i re did the selecters and copper ease sprayed all metal working parts . when engine is off no prob shifting when on is a pain in the ass rev very hard and 1st 2nd    should i drain the box and change the oil ??

wobly idle on start up will proberbly be maf or throtle body. and the wistle you hear sounds like it could be a boost leak, had it on a code reader, if its a boost leak bad enough to cause a whistle ide imagine 17705 would come up

glow plugs have given me this problem on a few diesel cars over the years,
starts fine but runs like a bag of spanners till warm then be fine.

thanks guys no iv not had it pluged in yet so will do . and im going to get a new flow meter and see if it helps then think of taking the inlet and egr off and cleaning it  .

 :smiley: iv fixed the engine cleaned the egr and inlet also changed the air flow and now is all good thanks very much guys .
i did take it to get codes read but nothing came up .. now just the box hopefully i will sort it soon .  :cry:
