Thinking of decating the tdi, as in smash the innards out or replace it with a pipe but im nit clued up with the new mkt regulations coming into place.
Been told different thing like it doesnt need a cat due to no emmisions test just smoke test- true but ben told cat has to be present regardless whether smashed through or not.
But been told can pass without cat present too?!
Anyone know the real truth about turbo diesel mot bout exhaust, emmisions. Smoke test...
-
Will not matter on yours due to age, as long as it pases the smoke test you will be fine
-
Is regarding taking innards out or decat pipe?
Could be getting it chipped too which will makr it smoke more!

Decat pipe is a better option but knocking the insides out will be fine, yes a remap / chip will mean more smoke but it should still pass the mot.

I have just bought a pipe like this, with the cat taken out but then welded back up. Now speaking to my mechanic mate he insists it will fail my MOT, begin of Feb, if I put it in.
But I want to put it in so I can get my custom map done in Jan!
He also said that diesels do still get emissions tested, and if its above X amount, I think he said 3 something, then it will fail!
Would a remap defo make it smoke more? If it makes it smoke more could I say use some Redex to help it pass the MOT?

Might just take innards out of cat rather than risking decat pipe option, my bro in law is a tech at kwik fit will talj too him aswell

What year is your car, the op has a mk3 which would only get smoked tested, a newer car will be emissions tested.

You will be fine with your age of car.

You will need a cat under the mot regs.
-
Ok, thanks for help Wayne

Pretty sure TDI's don't need a cat at all, they just need to pass smoke test.

New mot regs mean a cat if fitted from new it must be working.

This is what my boogle is. I have a genuine downpipe with a hollowed out cat. You say the cat must be working but if it looks like a cat is there then should I need to worry?
Cheers :embarassed:

i have a ahu p plate wagon and been told by a mate who is a mot tester i will need cat for mot massive confussion with this with new regs not had a chance to read though them yet, its due mot in march so might just wait till mot then kiss goodbye to the insides of mine
-
Yeah im in samr bout gaz with mot in march, but from what ive read on new mot regs it says that if cat was fitted with a cat from new it must be present on mot.
Doesnt say anything about it having no insides with the age of our cars they only get smoke tested not emmisions tested.
