hi there, umming and aring over next car - currently have a Mk V GTi which I love. If - and it's a big if - we decided we needed more space, what's the next best option (VW or otherwise) for fun and practicality? Civil at low speeds (wife is a new driver), fun for me, space for two kids etc etc (you know, the usual suburban cliche  )
I guess it's a family (passat, 3 series)-sized estate? or something random, like a Qashqui?! (which look ok, but are dog slow).
Who's made a similar jump? thanks all.
cheers

why not a mk6, simelar size to a mk5, enough space for the kids. ect. ? or is the price tag too big?
passat seems good to me

Qashqui's are horrible. Period.
-
yeah, Mk VI would be great - but same size as the Mk V and that's what's got us wondering about more space. Trying hard to love the Passat, but don't know much about it. Will have a look and see if there's a quick version at sensible money for a few yr old one.
As for the Qashqui, it IS horrible... or so I thought until i saw it in white. Then it made more sense. Hmm... not persuaded, are you? Not sure I am either. Think I'll stop now *backtracks quietly*

Qashqui's are horrible. Period.
I had a qasqui as a courtesy car earlier in the year, after 2 days I complained and ended up with an Astra instead.
It was completely gutless, felt cheap inside, the steering has no feel to it & the ride is awful....avoid like the plague.

audi a4 sline?? vw jetta?

i nearly fell over with laughter when my young cousin paid 21k for 1 of those

A4, passat, leon cupra R are all good cars
-
tbh i wouldnt recoment a cupra r for a family, the ride is quite stiff and the front scrapes on every speed bump, nice big boot and 4doors tho.
-
Golf 5/6 Estate? Golf Plus? Touran?
-
Skoda Octavia or Touran maybe
-
wonderd how long it would be till you said a ocy  they are prob the best out of them all for the price, size, performance.
-
Porsche panamera ?
-
think the summary here is... stick with a Golf! cheers all.
-
Tiguas, older Tourag, A6, Subaru Legacy to name a few
-
Skoda Yeti.
Sorry, what was the question?
It's immaterial - the Yeti is the answer.

Passat without a doubt. Or A4 avant?
-
Hell no to cash-cow... I'd rather you buy a KIA Sportage
I thought the yeti's where quite pricey, I remember being a dealers with my brother pricing it up, plus the waiting list. In the end he went for a Nissan note :lipsrsealed:
I'd be looking at A4, Octy or passat, diesel options is what I'd head for as well.
-
jetta?
-
You're spelling it wrong:
Y-e-t-i
-
skoda superb, yeti or an seat exeo if you want an old shape a4
-
That Passat R36 estate looks rather tasty.
-
best thing to do is run family to train station and then meet them at the other end.
we went from a large mazda 6 to our mk 4 golf all i did was tell the wife not to pack so much. or you could put a roof box on when you need more room cheaper that way.
