Went into Unipart to get myself a replacement starter to be told they are £75 upwards and it could be one of six variants (8 tooth, 9 tooth, 2kw... etc)
Any truth in this?
He had my reg and engine code so would have thought it would have been more accurate?
-
that's a bit bizarre...
-
Indeed, just about to go up there and have a look, i'm kinda hoping its a wire that has fallen off
-
you got a multimeter to test it? Try touching the switched wire direct to the battery and see if the solenoid kicks
-
I haven't no

I haven't no
can u not get yours recond
-
Right update i have got it off to test it, wired up the casing to -VE and the power and switched to +VE and i get this?
Should it spin or what? It obviously works, but no spin?
When it was still in car i could not hear this 'click' of the shaft shooting out though?

One way easily, though other is reasonably difficult but can be spun yes..

As per other post i would say it burnt out / has a burnt spot.

Sorry about double post, wanted maximum exposure, would be nice to sort out what i need to do by tonight lol :embarassed:
-
the solenoid is knackered
-
I connected it up about 10min ago to show a mate and first time it went, however now, it wont spin.
Think i can take it apart and grease it up?
-
Got my starter from euro's £48 brand new no exchange, was making squeaching noise on start up. Easy job only took about 30mins.
-
yeah but we don't have an ECP over here

£75 upwards down here, and don't really want to go spending on something i can fix?
I will strip it all down tomorrow, chuck a shed load of grease in it and see if i can get it to work.
After seeing it spin earlier, there is still a glimmer of hope
-
Dave open it up I bet the final copper contact is knackerd after the solenoid pops out it creates another circuit which then allows it to spin you maybe able to rebraze some metal back in there if its worn down
-
Well stripped ot down, re-greased, all fine working on kitchen side.. brilliant.
Put back on car, turned key... nothing.

You check the copper contact I was on about in the starter as they give symptoms like that, also you getting full voltage down there?
-
I did have a look yeah, and everything seemed ok.
Once i free'd up the shaft, i thought all was well, it spun after all
How many limbs do you want for one at Esplanade?
-
All four and your head for good luck, not sure mate I'll look tomorrow you got a genuine one on there now?
-
I have indeed, exchange basis you ask?
-
Right so i have a different starter motor to try and under closer inspection, im confused already
On old one, i have switched from ignition, positive from battery, and grounded from bellhousing.
Whats this new mystery one? 99% its not on the one in there already.
Top one, next to bit of blue paint.
