Title: Airbag warning light, grr...
Post by: VW Russ on 30 December 2011, 12:11
Hi chaps,

wonder if you could help please? I treated myself to a Zenez sat nav system for my mk5 gti over xmas and decided to fit it myself as I couldn't wait until Jan. All went well and works nicely though now I have an airbag failure. I've done a little research and I did switch the ignition on a few times without the switches connected and it appears this could have caused the problem? Anyone else heard of this?

Also, when I removed the pillar interior I wonder if I've damaged tha bag at all? I was careful but you never know.

Any thoughts I would be very greatful.

Many thanks,

Russ

Your not going to know much without plugging in on vag-com or vas

No, I assumed that. Would VW charge much do you think?

If you switched the ignition on with the airbag disconnected, that's the reason it's thrown a light up

local garage with a fault code reader should be able to clear it or find someone who is local with VAGCOM / VCDS who will do it for a beer token or two

One trick you could try is disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or so.  Sometimes that resets everything

Cheers Rhyso, that's what I'd heard too. I'll try the battery first if not, I have a friendly garage who I think can do it.

The Zenez sat nav is great by the way, works very well indeed.
