Fourteen for sale in the EU at the moment:
http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?scopeId=C&isSearchRequest=true&sortOption.sortBy=searchNetGrossPrice&makeModelVariant1.makeId=25200&makeModelVariant1.modelId=14%2C55&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=syncro&minPowerAsArray=87&minPowerAsArray=KW&export=ALSO_EXPORT&fuels=PETROL&damageUnrepaired=ALSO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&doorCount=TWO_OR_THREE
Buy one for around £3k and put your own mark on it (rather than buying one that looks like a tart's handbag inside).

I have been eyeing up european syncros for a while.. How do you get them over here and registered is it hard ?

Lovely car but i hate the red leather and ridiculous sub enclosure in the boot...therefore I'm out!

They all seem to be 2.9 lumps as well which is an added bonus.

From what I gather it seems cheaper/easier to not re-register the car in the uk. As to what happens when/ if you get pulled by the rozzers is anyones guess though

The nation I have experience with importing from is Germany (who'd a thought it, eh?). Process goes like this:
Buy car in Germany, it should have a Fahrzugbrief and maybe a Fahrzuglange (short and long registration document). The long one will outline all of the modifications that have been made to the car (seriously).
If you're driving the car out of Germany you will need to go to the local vehicle office (talk to the vendor) and get temporary cover plates. These give you insurance for two weeks and a temporary registration number. These are the plates you see cars running around on in the UK for months/years.
I'd get some insurance set up before you leave the UK. They can generally insure on a VIN number, so make sure the car you're buying has one.
Get yourself some RHD headlights (or fit beam diverters or something) and make sure the rear foglight is on the correct side (or you have two) and take it for an MOT. Speedo can be in KPH, don't sweat that.
Now take your MOT, insurance and the German registration documents to your local DVLA office, you might want to order an 'Import Pack' from the DVLA before you take yourself there, especially if it's a bit of a hike. Do that here:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/ImportingAndExportingAVehicle/DG_4022583
The forms get sent off from the office, the office may want to see the vehicle to check its identity and then you wait for 'some time' and you get the lovely V5 and registration number. Get plates made up and away you go, sitting on the wrong side of the car.
It is NOT a hard process and the DVLA people in the offices are generally properly helpful (beats processing ANOTHER private plate transfer, I think!).
Go for it!
They all seem to be 2.9 lumps as well which is an added bonus.
That's all that was fitted to the VR6 Syncro.
-
how much does it cost tho to get it registered ?
-
Naff all, £25-40 or something (can't remember, didn't bother me at the time). If you're prepared to go to Germany to get a car it really doesn't register on the scale.
-
DH you up for a mission to germany?

Yeah, but that's for a track day at some point this year.
-
I'm going Wörthersee next year
-
You'd think after all that work he would have at least replaced the expansion tank too!
-
Wonder how hard a RHD conversion would be.....
-
You'd be into home-building an exhaust manifold.
Aside from that it wouldn't be too hard.

from what ive read more of a pain the arse than anything just man up and drive LHD lol
-
never driven a LHD silly question but are the pedals the same way as the RHd cars are?

Yeah, still CBA.
I'd keep it LHD... I only drive aggressively if I'm on a track anyway so I don't really see a problem.
-
As above. You'll only punch the doorcard a couple of times when you go to change gear.
If you're overtaking in a situation where you NEED an RHD car to do it safely, then you're probably taking too many chances .

lols
