Title: Vagcom results
Post by: mrapoc on 29 December 2011, 17:28
Got my hands on the kit. Could someone have a quick look at results. Been having rubbish mpg! Testing blocks 3, 8 and 11.

I can provide the excel data if needed, but to make it nice - i've tried to make some graphs that may be useful. I don't really know what I'm looking for so I've used what I think might be useful.

edit: Graphs are in post below as these were not very useful

Temperatures after all the testing:

To get accurate data you need to do a WOT (Wide Open Throttle) in 3rd gear from as low down as you can to near enough red line.

On the data front am not much use but Rhyso, Topher, Nick (R-tech) or one of the chiptunning guys will be able to help

Be worth putting a post in the garage section as well.

As Steve said, WOT in 3rd from approx 1500rpm to the redline and repeat at least 3 times to build up an accurate picture

You actual figures should near enough match the figures specified by the ECU  :nerd:

You'll see low down that the boost will not match the requested as the turbo is spooling up; once up and running your boost and MAF levels should be hitting the requests of the ECU

Crap MPG normally points to a failing MAF

What engine is it?

So to do the WOT in 3rd, just a nice flat bit of road where I can go from 1.5k up to red line recording the same data I have above?

Ok ill go measure the same blocks/data only this time repeat it a few times in 3rd, on flat land up to red line.

Its a Golf IV GTTDI 1.9 AJM 115.

Just to clarify..I do this on flat roads in 3rd? I remember reading it needs to be a hill or does it not matter.

Thanks very much

Oh and blocks 3, 8 and 11 correct?

yep flat roads and as Rhyso said try to do it 3 times to get some good data.

think its 3 for maf, 11 for boost not sure what 8 is

Here's the goods. I had to stop and turn around inbetween goes but I went up to the limit and started at about 1.5k.

Does the MAF readings look dodgy? If so i can go order one today.

thanks guys

Also, do I see my turbo overboosting?
Title: Re: Vagcom results
Post by: Steve_PD on 30 December 2011, 13:23
yes your turbo is overboosting but it will always over boost a little.
I would have thought your maf reading look ok as they hit the targets but wait for someone with more experiance to make a comment :lipsrsealed:

What engine is it?

In the meantime i'm going to repipe my vacuum lines. They look crap

Can you put one run into a graph rather than all 3 into one graph as its a little hard to decipher  :undecided:

Your turbo will over boost for a fraction and then it is brought back into line; if it over boosts for too long you'll hit limp mode

I've logged another run in 4th from 30mph to redline. Ill stick that up shortly

Yeah or just past the info relating to the MAF

My first thoughts are your MAF is screwed - if you look at time stamp 11.94 and 13.14 you can see how the values are well below the requested when they should be around their peak.  they then climb back up again.

The numbers themselves are really erratic too

Checked out my MAF. Is it aftermarket? Its an SMP Europe MAF. Also the airbox...looks very different to my mate's. If so, I can go to TPS tomorrow and pick up the correct ones

Changed the MAF. Not sure if its improved the MPG yet but it picks up a lot better!

Title: Re: Vagcom results

Yeh it feels 10x better too in the low revs. I used to have quite a lot of lag when pulling away until the turbo kicked in...i thought that was normal :P

Seems that the "SMP maf sensor" isnt as good as a proper VW one. I got it for £65 inc housing/tubing from TPS (inc vat!) bargain!

In terms of this thread and my MAF - both are solved...for now

Thanks all
