I reckon i'll get it to 40 MPG on my regular drive to work! And before anyone asks, yes i do drive it like a fairy!

yes i got just over 40 mpg the other day over 20 miles taking it easy with 350 miles on clock, that was 45-60 mph it seems its a bit more frugal than my ed30 from memory but as expected not as many mpg than my mk6 gti.

Dont see the point if you own ed35 why not by hybrid

Very funny!!! If i save a little during the dull drive to work then I feel less guilty when I give it some at the weekend!
-
I couldn't go much faster dark country roads and raining, just checking out all aspects of what the car is capable of, can't speed and don't speed that much theirs a time and place.

Banter and sarcasm on here ,wellcome the mad world of the mk6  get it mapped then you'll see the difference!!

lol @ GTI owners that enjoy good MPG. Something so wrong about that.

GTIs are about a blend of talents, thus fuel economy is reasonably important. Those that don't care about such things buy either R32s if they need something small or RS3s it they're rich and need something small, or just buy a proper performance car in the first place.
-
Even us R owners can manage 40mpg (only just though)
A steady 58mph on the motorway over 21 miles can get this :-
(http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i64/Jerry_G/41mpg.jpg)
Overall I'm getting 27mpg though, so not quite as good as a GTi
The AWD transmission losses have always affected mpg - you can feel the car slowing as soon as you lift off.
-
27MPG is a million time better than what MK4/5 R owners got ;)
-
My standard mk4 1.8t averages 24mpg all around town and shortish jouneys
But can't better 30mpg at a steady 65mph on the motorway.Normal 80's drops it to the late 20's
So consider yourselfs luucky i've only got 150bhp aswell :P
-
Who says the 35 is cr@p on fuel! it was 40 mpg but by the time i got my phone out is had dropped.

I would average 24mpg.. if thats all the R owners are getting, then I would rather pay the extra 3mpg just for the sound

ed35 is not crap on fuel compared to other hot hatches, its just standard gti is so good on fuel.

sounds like more fun tho or a fair bit of city driving

 those are some good mpg's for a gti.....nice one!
-
The best I have had is 49.7mpg out of it - a steady 60mph from Glasgow to Ayr on cruise control.
In fact, for one portion of the journey (around 15 minutes driving after just filling up with fuel, the on board computer read 62.1 mpg but that soon disappeared.
Overall average though, is about 34mpg as I do a lot of very short journeys and also can't resist putting my foot down.
-
This is the best I have got in mine.
Overall average is 34 MPG, including a commute of 4 miles each way in the week and seeing 22 mpg being stuck in traffic every night.
That compares to overall 31 MPG in my mk5 with much more motorway miles in my commute.
-
Really impressed with that! I reckon I'll break 42 within the next month.

 Especially an ED35 with a K04 turbo that's whole raison d'etre is being efficient at high revs, I struggle to get 32mpg on my 'normal' GTI and I don't exactly drive like an 18 year old high on testosterone...
-
This was taken probably around Oct last year on my stroll to work...... and it really was a stroll that day!

Bluefin made around 2mpg difference.
I won't be doing it again though.
As mentioned earlier, what's the point of having a GTI if you can't enjoy it.

For some people, they bought their GTI because it's just a nice car to own and aren't all that fussed about ultimate performance. It is possible to enjoy owning and driving a nice car without having to drive quickly.
I've had my Mk2 for 3 years and don't think I've ben over 80mph in it.

I'd be interested to see what Ed35 owners are getting, as a comparision to the R which at the moment is struggling to get above 30mpg.

Hi, I started this thread in my 35 and its improving. I fit into the category that dubber36 described though.

The answer is in your hands, stop posting rubbish threads and I won't criticise you.
-
Wow all you guys get really good milage over the last 5 or 6 tanks of fuel I haven't seen over 25MPG average  I must have a broken one too. Although I have touched 30MPG if I get stuck behind a lorry for miles on end but it is rare that I stay behind him long unless there are other cars in front of me.
-
I dont believe your getting these figures esp with KO4 , stop talking sh*t get real

My Ed 35 is currently averaging overall 31.1mpg most for a single trip I've seen is 35! But I can't resist the noise.

On this journey ... http://g.co/maps/ax99x ...
I managed ...

A few weeks later I got another 2.6mpg but failed to get a picture :(

Well something not right if your water temp is only that high after 15 miles, unless you have taken pic 10 mins after you have finished journey

A steady 58mph on the motorway over 21 miles can get this :-)
I think 58mph is a good speed for fuel economy vs comfort as a test bench plus your not being overtaken by lorries as you do at 56

The one where he's whining that he didn't get an Edition 35 keyring with his car.

According to diamond hell he only got 14mpg when he test drove a Mk6,that's why he never wants to own a mk6 , I'm sure people just make things up on here :undecided:

Remap and 98/99RON fuel seem to make quite a difference to mpg.

It was taken like 45 mins to an hour after my drive so the engine had time to cool down to this temp.
-
Just to say, from Strathaven to Braehead tonight I averaged 50.3 mpg according to the display. That was sticking at a faily gentle 60mph where legal and 30mph where not.
-
GTI's can get great MPG I have seen 48 once on my MK6 and 46 once on my ED30 just to see what it could do if I tried. However that was the one and only time in each and the real world average for both over the time I have owned them is 35 for the MK6 and 32 for the ED30 so I am expecting 32 out of the ED35.
-
32 is a good shout. My 35 has dropped a bit due to the inclement weather etc but thats to be expected. My run to work is avg. late 30's but that drops when going around town.
-
During the cold spell I could not get better than 34mpg mixed driving. ( I'm out in the country )
Now the weather has got mild the car is giving 38mpg :)

TBH I used to drive my ED30 harder than the MK6 as it was more focused and the engine had a come on let's go to the max character to it  This is the biggest thing I miss about the ED30 and is the character I will get from the ED35. I don't really care that the MPG will be worse in the ED35 as my grin will be huge!
