im looking for a mk3 cab as a project to transplant a vr6 into, and as the vr6 is hydrualic clutch and cable gear change which mk3 cabs come with the same set up.
thanks in advance

None from memory they were all cable, only mk3's that were hydraulic were 16v's and VR's, biggest engine in the cabrio was a 2.0 and that I am sure ran a cable clutch.
-
yeah all mk3 cabs have cable set up same as 8v gti running gear , best of taking stuff of a tdi or gti 16v as they are hyd setup.
-
One point that might be worth checking is that later hatches have the same pedal box so the hydraulic cylinder will fit in with no mods, you might find the cabrio is the same.

what does this pedal box look like?

what does this pedal box look like?
From the threads I have read it is standard on all 1996 onwards cars.

yours has the one thats needed, thats all u need to know

looks like im going to have to use pedal box from the passat vr6 donor car as well as the gearchange set up aswell, looks like a bigger job than i,d hoped for.
-
WHY ? how old is the Cab ?
Not worked on a cab, but 95% sure you will have the correct pedal box

Passat is very different to the Golf, not sure how easy it will be to convert into the cabrio.

Gear-shift should be relatively easy, just route the cables neatly and away from the exhaust.
You can always use the cable-clutch conversion off a SEAT Toledo or similar instead of converting to hydro.

ive not got the cab yet, thats why im trying to get as much info as poss before purchase, i do have the passat vr6 tho, complete and ready to strip.
would it just be easier to put the golf cab gearbox onto the vr6 lump from the passat?
-
Gearlinkage is piss easy to swap out, you will be using the one from a ABF mk3 or VR6 and the Gearbox from a VR6 too
Will also need the Clocks from a Golf VR6
The pedal box will probably be ok, its only the very early MK3's that don't have provisions on the pedal box for the Hydro parts
Id personally not go down the cable to hydro route on this application..
Would have been much better using a golf 3 VR6 as the donor, you can get them for as little as £500

reason i got the passat vr6 is i drive a passat as my daily and the vr6 had full heated leather, so had it for that and break rest for spares for guys on another forum(ukpassats)

If you can change a clutch you can swap from cable/rod to hydro/cable. I did it.
