I had a chat with a local who also has a GiT.
His is a 61 plate, mine a 10
He has Xenon and LED DRL's, mine doesn't
But mine has the rear R LED's but his has the early rear lights
Does anyone know why....?

Did you buy yours second hand. the GTI doesnt come with the the Golf R LED rears. People fit them aftermarket.

Sorry Kenneth - It may not be the R LED's but they are the ones with the lines, like yours (if you know what I mean?)
No, bought it brand spanking new from a VW main dealership.
Have also seen some GTD's with them and also newer GiT's, so not sure why his didn't have them on?

or just lighter versions of the R LED tails?
If he has those lights ^^^ then it's a bit odd. US spec cars still come with them but UK build cars have had the lighter shade LED tails for a year or more now.

Yep, those are the ones he has.
I thought this didn't seem right, and you have just confirmed my suspicions.
I'll tell him to query this with his source dealership

Sounds very strange
These are the yearly MY changes I copied from another thread :-
MY2010 (from week 22 2010)
•Bluetooth module changed from Sim Access Profile to Hands Free Profile (iPhone friendly)

•Images on RHS of steering wheel changed
•LED rear light cluster (non-smoked, unlike R)
•18-inch Charleston shadow alloys (replace Vancouver)
MY2011 (from week ?? 2010)
•Black GTI / GTD logo on steering wheel
•Colour Multi-function display now an option
•Full postcode search on RNS510 (with version 7 of maps)
•LED day running lights (when with Bi-Xenon)

Sounds to me like it there was a mix up on the production line with your mates car. The car behind it in the factory may well only be a 1.2S, but the owner might have a nice suprise of it sporting LED rears.

Could be that they had a fault with the original ones. I had to have a new steering wheel fitted due to the stitching coming part and it came as the 2011 with the black GTI badge.

Yeah, my GT, although used, came from Inchcape in Altringham. That had no mats, bottle opener or Media leads when i went to pick it up. The salesman said it was a used car, if they weren't there, that's just how it was. I pointed out that it was an "Approved" used car, therefore should be complete. Needless to say, he managed to find some brand new ones for me from the parts department.
