Anyone know whats up with my car. Killed 2 sets of pulse plugs (the 10 bhp ones) and a set of nology silver .They end up white and blue ,like they got to hot. :undecided: They are gap spot on .

Thanks, but the plugs have died. I think it has something to do with there heat range. Pulse plugs lasted 3+ miles before going to limp mode or running on 2 cylinders and nology silver lasted 50+ miles. :embarassed:

it killin all 4 plugs
-
Have you tried a set of standard NGK's
-
it only kills about 2 of them . i think . :undecided: And yeah ngk platinum are back in and are spot on. I dont get it. They all had the same gaps. :undecided:
-
If the plugs that are dying are platinum tipped be careful gapping them because you can damage the coated electrode
-
if its killing them it could be a sign of a weak spark, i.e coilpack going down which i wouldnt expect with an AGU. Get a set of standard NGK plugs or bosch super 4s. Never had a problem with either and alot of higher powered AGU's run these without problem.
-
might also be worth checking the wiring going to the coilpacks where the plugs are burning out, you may have a break in the wiring and then plug not sparking as should. Then over time the AF mixture will combust under pressure. Are you noticing unburnt fuel out the exhaust, pops or bangs?
-
May sound a silly question but have you got the correct oil in as ive known this happen when some woman at my work filled hers up with the wrong stuff.
-
platinum plugs are long life and designed to go into engines that are built for them plugs, they are a crap conductor but last for 50k plus! thatll be why there burning out. i noticed the difference straight away on my mazda 3, wrong plugs were fitted and when i put the right plat plugs in it cured it, but it was noticeably slower.
stick to what vw recommend, once you get over 300bhp then you should start looking elsewhere
-
I know what it is, have you checked your engine code it should say AUM as AGU's don't break, k tnx, bye :smug:
-
yeah its a AGU . I have the right oil, 0w 40 castrol edge ,just under max. Why do the plugs metal turn blue and a bit of white soot. Iv gave up on uprated plugs .Is it because its had a remap and they over heat. Denso ik22 go black with soot, i thought they were for stage 1 map( but they never died). :undecided:
-
heat ranges
-
That what i think. When r-tech tested pulse plugs and nology silver ,what did they test it on a standard engine. :undecided:
-
Is your car remapped? If so could be you're running lean and burning the plugs. Get it logged to see what's happening with the fuelling. My main concern wouldn't be the plugs but the cylinders , valves and rings melting.
-
I run IK22s on stage 2 with no problems
-
Its worth getting the air fuel ratio checked out.
-
I have no way of checking it. I know it leaks oil into intercooler, but dont smoke .But when theres to much ,on full boost it runs crap and a big cloud of blue smoke comes out. It hasnt done this with the nology plugs in .But i dont boot it .I have a month ago with ngk platinum and it pulls like a train ,gave a bike a good race from a set of lights. The NGK are perfect. :undecided:

Pop up in the new year and I will take a look for you if you want dude

whilst your at it, get that crap castrol oil out of the car. Im am sure my AGU should be run on different oil, always use VW recommended oil from dealers or TPS.
-
castrol oils good.
-
Yes catrol oil is very good I work for a stealer and that's what we use except in cheap services we use quantum
-
you may want to read the article in the maint section. and im 100% 0 40w is the incorrect oil for the engine.
1.8T:
For the 1.8T vw recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil. This should confirm to Vw 504 00 or 507 00. Castrol longlife III is the approved oil.
The 1.8T will take 4.35 litres of engine oil.
Weak spot:
The 1.8T MUST use fully synthetic oil, and be changed at the correct service intervals, use of the wrong oil can cause the oil pick up to block up and the the oil pump to seize causing catastrophic loss of oil pressure and engine failure.
* NOTE * DO NOT USE Engine Flush!!
Read this : http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=181271.0
1.8T oil filter part no: 06A115561B £5 +VAT
Sump Plug: N90813202 £1.08 + VAT
There has been a lot of differant oils recomended by some VW dealers read this topic:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=95412.0
I would strongly recommend a visit to your dealer to see which oil thay recommend for your 1.8T engine. (Give them your reg no and all your cars info will come up on the screen)
Some forum members use and recommend SYNTA GOLD 5W-40 fully synthetic which vw sell :
VW part no: AZGB 115 QLB 00 421 £24.36 +vat. This oil, oil filter ,sump plug comes to £35.79 all in from VW.
**EDIT**
Synta Gold - VW have replaced it with:
Quantum Platinum 5W-40 - £24.06/£27.67 for 5 litres
Part number - VZGB 115 QLB 00 551 036A
-
Very fussy engines with oil.
All I would ever use on a 1.8T is Quantum Platinum 5W-40, stock power or 450+bhp.
-
oil man on here said its good . Cost £60 . but 0w 40 is better than 5w 40. If they had 5w 40 i would of bought it.

Nothing wrong with 10w40, I use it with no problems
-
10w40 here on all my cars, have used 5w30 on my polo no problem.
-
10W 40 is not fully synthetic, only part synthetic. Use 5w 40 or 0w 40 . I blame the 10w 40 oil doing my turbo oil seals . castrol magnitec sucks, for are cars.
