Used to have a vr, well a few.
Getting bored of my caddying work can.
What can I expect from a mk4 turbo?
If I'm not going to enjoy it after the vr. What can I do? Or should I just get a vr?
Help appreciated people.....
-
get a mk4 forge 007p valve yellow spring air filter and tip with a remap you will love it!!
-
get the mk3 but put the engine from the mk4 in it
-
or you could do that mate haha
-
The Vr might well outperform it really, bags of torque etc...
-
no chance i ear vr's all day long lol

Standard vr6 will be quicker than a standard 1.8t.
But who leaves a 1.8t standard?

Unless it is a 180
Sod the work / hassle and expense of fitting a 1.8t to a mk3, just buy a mk4 and remap it.
Also it maybe worth thinking outside the box and getting a Leon Cupra or Octavia vRS, 180bhp as standard and a remap will get you 210 / 215
-
dont get me wrong v6 sounds good but blower is the way forward power to price wise unless u charge a vr6 lol
-
Mk3 is a Fat friend lighter than a Mk4
They are awesome with a 1.8 conversion, why VW did not kit them out with a turbo unit as standard boggles my tiny mind.
They would have been legendary.
Still, a late Mk4 + £500 on mods are weapons
-
yep the MK4 is one hell or a lardy ass bas tard and much more boat like than a 3
with a 1.8T in the 3 you have a right weapon
Id say the VR would smoke a standard 150 Mk4 and it deffo gives the 180BHP versions a hard time too because Bens VR has done just this
But as said, put that engine in the mk3 and its a while new ball game.. it is effort to do the transplant tho and £££ too
-
yea the mk4 is lardy but when mapped they shift haha mine makes a few things round town think haha!
-
I have built a mk2 vr before.
The 1.8t I'm looking at has a stage 2 map apparently, ko3s, forge cooler, forge actuator, upgraded down pipe, de cat/stainless system, and bigger turbo pipework....
And about 130k,
Told it should be about 230 bhp, not sure what all of that would give this lump tho?
Should be pretty quick surely lol....
-
Why not VRT And eat everyone??
....If you can get the power down

with respect you're not gonna say the mk3 is a POS are you...

Mk1 1.8t... Seeee yaaaaa
-
Im with Wayne personally I would just buy a 1.8t mk4 and go from there unless you would like to have ago at a conversion on a mk3.I havent personally done any kind of conversion as I would rather put my money into other things but I wouldnt think it would be to cheap and resale value isnt great.
-
Id just get a VR6 as my old mk4 was the most boring car Ive ever owned except for an old escort gti.
Its all a matter of opinion though, I think the best thing to do is drive both and decide which one works for you.
They will both need money spending on them -whether it be sorting the suspension or getting it remapped.

Didnt you buy the worst Gti though the 2.0l none turbo ??? VR6 in standard form isnt that quick either and they cost a fortune to run.

Nah mine was 1.8 20v
non turbo :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:
-
Then again, turbo or not it doesnt help that it was bland as hell and heavy as fook!!
-
Maybe if you every buy a mk4 again buy a decent one like a 1.8t or a deisel PD put some decent suspension on it and there not so bland and boaring
-
Yeah definitely mate. I dont mean to sound overly negative towards the mk4 as it was a decent and well built car -I would always consider another one but as you say it would have to be a turbo and would need the suspension looking at.

I know mate they are pretty lardy standard but to be fair most cars are in standard form.My own car only has a cheap coilover set but improved it alot so says alot for the standard set up.

Not wishing to make this a willy waving comp, but mine standard gave VR's a hard time now with the map / mods not a chance.
-
Its a pointless comparison, vr6 was first introduced in 1992, it's an old engine compared to the 1.8T.
-
go on Wayne, wave it with pride

I think both standard they ent that quick but the 1.8t would nick it I reakon.
-
A good vr is quite nippy, depends what you're comparing it with..
-
A standard 1.8t golf 150 is not quicker than a vr6 I had a play with my mate in his seat Leon cupra and my golf was quicker than his but mines has a filter and exhaust so standard vs standard there probably one a par the 150 golf are sh!t slow until they are remapped
-
You would say that though cause im guessing you own a VR6
-
Did you used to own a 16v?
-
Yeah and a VR6
-
:lipsrsealed:

Yeah mate I do have a vr6 but that don't mean I am talking sh!t i got beat off a Saxo vts so I'm not biased saying that the vr6 are the fastest cars in the world cos there not there an old car but I'm telling you a seat Leon cupra is about the same as a vr6 not a golf 150
-
I think my old 8v would do both of em :lipsrsealed:
-
Haha the 8v gti why it was called a gti makes me laugh they might aswell have stuck a gti badge on a 1.4 cl cos they are about the same speed lol
-
Yes I've had a poke against a Leon Cupra in my VR and it was probably about evens, I may be slightly biased but you could buy a VR and supercharge it for around the same price as a decent mk4 1.8T and you would have a rather evil monster, albeit a thirsty evil monster
-
na ben.. did you see the video of the supercharged one (the cabrio that was on here) i expected waaaay more!!!!
Turbo and then ya talking... supercharge.. naaaa
-
Have you seen that blue golf that dubsport built 2 vr6 turbo engines now that was a f**kin monster something like 600 bhp
-

Yea, The chargers are usually centrifugal and they only boost top end. Not as impressive as the may seem.

over a 1.8t 150-180 with a ko3 ko3s id rather have a 4mo anyday only a 225 in a 1.8t for me.
