Hi folks
During some late Christmas shopping yesterday, I managed to turn while reversing out the parking forgetting the bay next to me had some kerb stones left in it. managed to completely rip the front bumper out and it's torn all the mounting eyes out. :embarassed:
Since it looks like I'll need a new front bumper, thought maybe an Ed35 front bumper would be a bit different. An R front end would be great but it seems like it needs a bunch of things changed.
Is the Ed35 just a bumper skin change and lower spoiler or is there also a bunch of changes?
-
bad luck. its why i don't like shopping!
hope you haven't damaged the side mounting brackets too. they look pretty flimsy too.
the edition 35 bumper looks just like the bumper skin, the only difference being the bulges at the bottom of the bumper so hopefully the normal GTI grill and spot lights fit in.
-
from a quick check of ETKA there are three parts, the bumper cover, lower spoiler and something called a closing element that are different for the ED35 bumper.
-
So the grill and lights will be ok to re use? That will save a few quid
-
Yes grill and lights are fine
-
Let us know how much it sets you back. Think you may need to dig deep into your wallet :lipsrsealed:

^^^ Spoken like a true scots man
Here the break down of parts (was previously missing the lower grill trim thats black on the ED35 and pearl grey on the normal GTI): -
Lower Spoiier = 5K0 807 110 B 041 @ £73.14
Bumper Cover = 5K0 807 217 CK GRU @ £324.11
Closing Element Left = 5K0 807 611 = £27.58
Closing Element Right = 5K0 807 612 = £27.58
Lower Grill Trim Black = 5K0 853 611 G 041 = £106.15
My prices haven't been updated for a while so might be a bit off.
So as Kenny said not cheap
-
thanks folks - yeah, quick looks shows a couple broken mounting brackets too
That pricing is actually not too bad, I suspect I will be coughing up quite a bit more to buy from the local stealers.
Wonder what the 'closing elements' are?
Is that bumper skin part number for the PDC or non PDC version Steve?
-
Surely your insurance excess isn't that much? By the time you've added £200 on for paint, that is.
I'd be taking it to my bodyshop of choice and getting him to mistakenly order the "wrong" bumper.

Ha ha, or just loot the place for parts, plenty of practice this year by the English! :lipsrsealed:

I'll check on pricing but each insurer seems to have their recommended panel shop only, and the last "VW and AA approved" body shop that got their hands on the car painted the bumper a nice grey instead of the silver that the rest of the car was painted in, and pulled out a bunch of excuses about metal and paint difference and primer colour to explain why they could not get it to match. plus would loose 4 years of no-claims bonuses as well as excess.
-
The part number was for non pdc
-
Thanks Steve.
After a bit of a battle I got EKTA working again.
Would be looking for the PDC version. Gather all Ed 35 have the headlight washers, so would that be 5K0 807 217 CL GRU?
Got a chance to take the bumper off to look for damage.
The bumper support element on the left (impact) side is broken at the bottom - I assume they are the same part for gti as Ed 35?
Looks like 5K0 807 723 A...
And sadly the headlight lower guide piece has cracked through at the fender mount...looks like the piece listed as 5K0 807 571J.
Fender mount hole also pulled out of place, and paint cracked off so a bit of paint needed there too.
Dealers parts div seem off till the new year...
-
My car is at the body shop to have the 35 bumper put on. They are saying that the stock gti plastic pieces that clip into the bottom of the bumper cover and spoiler won't work. I have asked a couple shops that sell the bumper, and they are all saying the stock gti pieces should work.
These are the parts I am talking about. Ones with the red lines.

Will the regular gti parts work?
Thanks

There's some info in this (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=203457.msg1894587#msg1894587) thread which suggests they are different on the Ed35.
-
Isn't that the lower spoiler Steve listed on page 1? part 5K0 807 110 B? That is listed as "GTI 35J" on ETKA

That is my guess. It is the only one of the 807110 parts that is listed just as black. Others are all satin black. I'll go double check part numbers at the shop.
Odd thing is GTI has three #1 parts, and the 35 only has two. Does that mean it uses the same "retainer" for the spoiler?

Went and looked at the parts today. Any know how the gloss black spoiler attaches to the car?
The stock gti lip spoiler "retainer" doesn't seem to fit, and the 35 bumper cover doesn't have sports for it to clip in on the bottom.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just checking - is the grill not 5K0 853 655 G 041?
Also seems to be another spoiler part, 5K0 805 903 G 9B9, maybe that is the bit that links the spoiler to the bumper?

I am pretty sure 5K0 853 655 G is the gloss black u trim that goes around the lower mess grille.
5K0 805 903 G seems to be the valance that clips into the bottom of the bumper cover. If you search for the other variations of that part number (without the G) that is what shows up.
Still haven't really figured out how the lip spoiler clips into the car. I asked on a German forum and this is what I got. Google translate makes it somewhat hard to understand...
"Did I once made the effort and create ne list, with all parts of the ED35 front conversion including current prices.
Can even accommodate vll someone on the list with the other part numbers. parts needed! name / component / part number / color code / price inkl.MwSt bumper cover primed without PDC (only provided however, support for PDC itself must be installed on site, according to ETKA?) / 5K0 807 217 CK / GRU / € 346.29 primed bumper cover with PDC (stands But still there?) / 5K0 807 217 CL / GRU / € 346.29 bumper cover primed with Park Assist / 5K0 807 217 CL / GRU / € 346.29 spoiler satin black (it is the black spoiler engaged) / 5K0 805 903 G / 9B9 / € 50.46 black spoiler / 5K0 807 110 B / 041 / € 79.14 (the actual black spoiler ED35) is the left end plate (the resulting opening in schliest Innenradhaus) / 5K0 807 611 / / € 23.20 right end plate (ditto) / 5K0 807 611 / / € 23.20 Black trim (here called "U-bracket" means, but also fits the original) / 5K0 853 655 G / 041 / € 106.15 parts of the "normal" by the GTI front can be assumed, because exactly the same! U-bracket (yes is the ED35 only piano black lacquer, varnish is one probably cheaper) NSW, NSW grid, medium grid reinforcements in the rear of the bumper, complete SWRAL including covers, PDC sensors , license plate holder (if desired ) "

Got these pictures from a guy with a 35. Still don't get how the spoiler goes into the car. It either clips into the valance, or there is a separate part, but ETKA doesn't list a retainer for the spoiler... :(

Any ideas?

Can anyone PM me a VIN number for a Ed 35? Will ask local dealership to check against my VIn what differences show up
-
does anyone know for definite if the GTI grille, fogs etc will fit an ed35 bumper?
the dealer has agreed to replace my bumper they damaged and were trying to work out a deal on a 35 bumper
i know the bumper skin, lower spoiler (both parts) are required but do all the other gti bits just swap over?
thanks
-
easiest is to take your VIN and a ED35 one and have the dealer check the differences.
Of course getting a ED35 VIN is apparently harder than a wedding dick...

I just Googled "gti edition 35 vin" - try WVWZZZ1KZCW024959
-
If that doesn't work in will send you one tomorrow.

-
let us know how you get on with this.
i might be getting a ed.35 bumper skin from the dealer as a replacement hopefully but need to know if all the trimmings will be suitable
isn't the ed.35 centre piece gloss black instead of grey like the normal GTI too?
-
yes, seems to be - there is a part labelled ed35. Will confirm if VIN works
-
Anyone go ahead with this? Want to try get my car back together, so looking at this again.
