Title: ipod adapter
Post by: daddy kool on 24 December 2011, 18:07
Hi!
My 05 gti came with the VW  ipod cable in the glove box ,when I tried an ipod on it it worked ok.
I did not own an ipod at the time , six months later I bought an ipod and when I tried it out nothing seemed to work so I gave up on it.
today I decided to give it another try ,but to no avail.
Am I doing something stupidly wrong , i assume you press CD button on the head unit to activate it as I have the CD changer in the clove box but know that the Ipod adapter can only work on it's own.
              Anybody got any ideas!

The car has a 6cd player but the ipod cable was installed by previous owner ,so cd player has never functioned !
I have always been led to believe that you can only have one or the other connected.

Yes that what I was getting at if you remove radio it will be one of the small square blue plugs made up in the big connector that goes in the back of the radio

I also have the Ipod connector in the glove box fitted by VW,it's not user friendly in the slightest, all in all it's crap and i have not used it since i had it fitted.

Have tried it with my sons Ipod as well but no go!!!

You have to arrange the playlists from 1-5 on iTunes or the iPod itself. Also make sure it's on CD changer mode and not just single CD mode, do this by pressing 'CD' twice.

To be quite honest, the IPod connector in the MKV is probably the worst piece of kit the car has. It isn't user friendly and I was really piss3d off at my dealer when I specced it as the salesman told me I'd see track titles etc. you get no info and just a list numbered up to 99. The new RCD510 unit and RNS 510 unit with the MDI interface is light years in advance of the MKV IPod interface. Either get that or a cheap double din aftermarket unit and an IPod adapter cable if you want to read tracks and control the IPod correctly.
