Title: Quick queston, quick answer needed engine mating to gearbox
Post by: emery1990 on 22 December 2011, 14:04
Right got flywheel and that in the bell housing but cannot get the two to mate so it's flush, is there anything I need to turn to get the two to mate? Or is it just a case of wiggle wiggle.

is it a matching flywheel to the box? Have you lined up the clutch plate properly?

This sounds bad news, Ive got the standard 16v gearbox 020? And the flywheel is an abf one. No I havn't lined it up, is this easy to do?

Well its not gonna fit then. You'll need an 020 flywheel.

LMAO, the ABF flywheel is a monster compared to the normal 16v one, how did you not notice?

They are all the same, but all completely different at the same time. Look at how an ABF head fits on a KR block or the other way round, two completely different engines from different MKs of golf but they sync up and do favours to each other but they both have different valve clearences, different cr, different cams ect.  I guess what Im trying to say is a few main bits will bodge together but other than that its all subtle differences
