How do you set the time on the MFA..?

have a look at this pic

http://homepages.manx.net/homepages/business-services/16%20valve-5.jpg

you see the two little holes in the perspex either side of the mfa? well if yours are like this then they are broke & there is no way of setting the time

only way is to disconnet the battery at 12 midnight, then reconnect it

though this can sometimes spike the MFA into now working at all, especially if they are motometer twin plug clocks found on pre89 gti's

Mine look like that? So are mine broke then? Has anyone got a picture of what they should look like?

I just shove a pen in the holes there, press hard and it alters the time??

Mine don't look broke ???

Its a know fault for the clocks to go funny on  the various VW models, transporters and Mk2 golfs always have this problem.

Expensive I fix I hear and a darn site cheaper to wear a wristwitch.

Mines gone funny and wont for love nor money adjust the time on the clock, luckily the MFA and speedo still work.

Mine cocked up a bit, and instead of disconnecting the battery, just remove the 2nd fuse in from the right, which disconnects the MFA, interior lighting etc. (On 16v, 8v is fuse is on the leftside of fusebox)

You may need to push quite hard for the digits to move, so be patient.

This worked for me, however it was the third fuse from the left. 1989 on a G plate.
Haynes identifies that this is the new fuse layout from Aug 1989 - Feb 1992.

When you've pulled the fuse the MFA should go out, so you'll know you've got it.

make sure your pen is long enough. It took me 45  mins to realise my pen tip wasnt reaching the buttons
