Hi new bloke here!Ive just bought a 02 gti t and so far im loving it apart from 1 problem every time i go above 60 the god dam thing over heats and when i slow down it cools down.Whats that all about.Ive been told its the water pump does this sound right or could it be the head gasket . what do u lads think?

Hi just had exactly the same problem with mine, as soon as you go over about 60 it over heats, and yes it was the water pump, the impeller had cracked so under load it wasn't spinning..

gone already on an '02 car ? thats shocking.

Hopefully they'll honour the repair under the warranty, ask for one with a metal impellor so it doesn't happen again. If they start to argue about anything at all tell them you'll be contacting VW HQ about the situation, this is a well known common problem that shouldn't still be happening to cars as new as yours.

Thanks for the advice! its was the water pump but fortunately its under warranty so its not out of my pocket, I'm getting the cambelt changed at the same time for just the cost of the parts which is a result.
