In case the link doesn't work: 2009 GTI, 35000 mile engine no workee no more.
At least the guy is being very un-dramatic about it.
I'm just hoping it's a one off incident...

Could be worse, could be mine
These things happen.
-
"The jumbled description I got over the phone is that some teeth on the timing chain have been skipped causing loss of oil pressure."
Aren't they belt driven?
-
Back in my 'youff' when I had a newish Corsa GSi (sssshhh) in the late 90's I had a cam tensioner fail on me when giving it some down a dual carriageway late at night.
It completly wrecked the engine.
The car went into Vauxhall's for repair and I recieved a call from them a couple of days later......
"The bad news sir the car is a week out of warrenty" ( gulp  ).... "however the good news is there is a known problem with cam tensioners on this model therefore we will carry out the repairs free of charge" (phew )
2 weeks later I recieved the car back with and they had completely re-built the engine. I think I kept the car for another year or so and it was as good as gold. Good old vauxhall's!

No chain driven. That's what set the alarm bells ringing!

Had exactly the same problem, I got a new block and cylinder head from vw,
A warning to all here, low oil in your car will cause the timing chain to skip, even before the oil light comes on.
Mine actually bent the pistons it f**ked up that Bad

Interesting...... Races outside to check oil

Basically when the timing chain skips, The Valves remain closed as the pistons come crashing down. Doesn't take a moron to work out this f**ks your engine almost straight away.

Very similar issue once on my old Vectra. Timing chain snapped at 60mph on the A38, mullered practically everything under the bonnet. Thank god it had 2 months warranty left!!
Detritus.

Talking of wrecking Vauxhalls, I was wragging my Sister-in-laws Corsa, when I hooked 1st gear instead of the intended full throttle change into 3rd. I didn't think the rev counter needle could go that far round. Rrrrraahhhhhhh Drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Dock. :embarassed:

Funnily enough.............. my Mark VI is 2 years old TODAY (Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you.......) and has racked up 65,000 miles.
All was sweetness and light until about 2 months ago....... engine no workee........ new cylinder head, inlet valves, manifold, blah blah blah. Off the road for 3 weeks whilst parts come from Germany. All done under warranty so no financial pain (a known problem apparantly with an inlet valve). 2 weeks ago............ engine no workee again. Same symptoms as before but different problem this time : Inlet Manifold and leaking air so 3 days in workshop with new inlet manifold fitted. All OK again now. Again, all done under warranty (which runs out today........ phew!)
Apart from all that - a great car
