i have heard a lot of people moaning about these, mine are a load of sh!te too, they dont sit flush to the door and the handle does not spring back properly without a helping hand, mine were from mr rabbity on ebay who also sent the front ones ( with lock holes) when i ordered rears. im thinkin of gettin porsche ones instead now, does anyone know where you can get chrome porsche 924/944 ones from?
-
I am going to be doing mine on Saturday! I bought them 8 months ago and never got around to doing them.
Thing is i have lost the instructions!
I should be able to work it out, but can you list down what i have to do, i can then see if i have the same problems as you and help each other out!
-
take out metal strip on door handle, remove screw from front.
Open door and above the lock there is another screw, take this out and the door handle is released.
Remove door handle, and barrel put into chinese spec ones, slide into door and reassemble as taken apart.
Thats as far as i got as they just stop working once screwed in fully.
-
Cheers, i got the ones with no barrel :)
Do i have to take the door card out to attach the locking mechansim?
Also i did read about your problem somewhere else and using washers to adjust something worked for them!?? Make any sense?
-
you don't have to take the door card off but it does make it a little easier. I read about the washers but i got so annoyed last time that i haven't even looked at the handles since.
-
Sod it, i am going to have a go tonight :)
which rod goes in to the handle is it the one that goes horizontal? i can't remember now!
I'll let you know! I have a feeling i am going to be swearing tonight
-
OK, nearly their :)
Did you have to swap over the leaver inside to the one from the original?, you know know out the split pin and swap, as the one in it does not touch the lever inside - i think it's for a MK3 as it has a screw on it with white plastic tip!
-
Right then, these stupid, bl00dy things, i am going smash them in to little pieces!!!!!!
I had to make a small bracket up to allow the arm to push down on the inside lever, after about an hour of fafing around, it worked, but it must have been touching the door lock lever and the door would not lock!!
secondly the screw supplied did not fit the thread, it was a different grade!, but the original one worked, 2 thick washers on the outside did hold it, but it was still a bit tight and the grommets don't fit too well either!
I some help on this, was there a bracket supplied that i did not get?
-
Passat's have those kinda handles on them would they not fit the mk 2 or would there be the same trouble cos those chinese spec handles are a VAG product aren't they?
-
Not too sure mate! i have emailed the guy i got them from "rabbity" off ebay!
I realised after looking back at the pics on ebay, that there are adaptors that come with them for the MK2 - I never got these! no wonder i had so much trouble!!!
I have emailed the guy for him to send them to me!
-
I managed to get it to sit tight and work buy putting the two thicker washers on the inside - used some tacky glue and stuck it to the thread hole on the handle!
here are the ones i got and how i fixed the lever!
And the crude fix
Should i have had an adaptor to screw into the plastic tipped screw?
-
i dont see how they push the mk2 door handle mechanism down? :undecided:
anyone have a pic of these fitted to a car?
-
Ok, i think i know why these don't work - i think they are for the MK3 not the MK2 - damn ebay seller
here is a pic of the one that look correct (off another ebay shop) -
(http://www.realitydesigns.co.uk/golf/handlec.jpg)
See the difference to the pictures above!!! Help, help, help!!
Also, i have found the best way to keep these handles solid - is to use 3 washers on the large screw on the inside of the door, the handle does not spring back fully at first, but leave it a few days and it seems to work fine!
-
Send em back and get the proper ones dude or bodge it!!!
-
I can't send them back as i bought them off ebay last october! i have only now got around to fitting them :( I have tried emailing the guy i got them off, but he is not responding :(
I'll bauy some more and sell these i think, i have posted a link on the mk3 forum to double check that the ones i have are for a MK3!
-
OK, these are the correct handles for the MK2, but they are for the rear doors! apparently to use them on the front doors you need to swap the latches over!
Now can i use the normal handle latches for this, or do i need MK3 front latches?
