Title: Squeaking seatbelt
Post by: scottishpedro on 18 December 2011, 08:59
Seems like a fairly obvious thing to ask but my search returned nothing...

My seatbelt squeaks when I put it on/move in my seat, is it a simple case of wd40/greasing the mechanism? I guess you have to be careful not to get any on the actual belt or it could be a clothes wrecker!

Thanks

Pedro

Extend the belt fully, wedge something into the top mounting to stop it re coiling, then give the mechanism a shot of WD40, leave it for a few hours before releasing the belt, some belts you can pop off the plastic side covers to expose the mechanism, making the job easier, DO NOT use grease, this could affect the way the locking mechanism operates

Mine has an annoying squeak whenever I move forward. I located mine to a worn belt (the material is not smooth anymore) that vibrates the plastic trim where it enters the pillar - yes really!
