has anyone removed the rear wiper on their golf and fitted a blanking plug. i saw these gecleant ones made from glass to sit flush in the window.
some say they don't fit good and others say they're great
anyone got any experience with these?
what sealant did you use? could you see it thru the tinted glass on the other side? does it leave a 'shadow' where its applied?
cheers

I've seen this talked about a few times on another forum if you search.
Rear Wiper delete-glass plug- complete smooth (http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25850&)
Personally I wouldn't remove a feature I use quite a bit whats the point purely cosmetic?
-
I never use mine. They just make a mess on the back window. My cars not a daily driver so wouldn't use it in bad weather.
Looks much cleaner without it fitted

With the heavy wiper motor removed from the tailgate, just be carefull that it doesn't crack you under the chin when it flies up when you open it.
-
 the boot never gets used either!
-
IIRC Demon Tweaks sell them at £25 a pop and you just tell them the size you want. Made from glass too. Just fix them in with a good sealant to make doubly sure.

The muck flying off the roads today I couldn't live without the spray and rear wiper.

But like he said, if it doesn't go out in the rain, it doesn't really matter.
The only time either the front or rear wipers on my Mk2 got used this year was during the MOT test.

+1. I find it an essential feature of the car at this time of year and/or whenever the roads are mucky or wet. It's a safety feature - why would you want to remove it? How do you see out of the back screen when it's completely covered in road spray?
-

1. My car is fair weather use only and never sees rain
2. I'm used to driving vans with no back window, riding super bikes with limited rearward visibility and enduro bikes with no mirrors at all.
3. I want this for looks not practicality as its something I never use once in 2000+ miles.
I'm just after experience from someone who has actually fitted a bung and if the glue is visable thru the tint.

I have one on my Mk5 Golf track car, same as this one link (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,38115.0.html)
As the raise part is a snug fit you can't see the glue, I also ran a small beed of black silicon around the edge to completely seal it
-
thanks thats the type i was looking at buying. i was just going to use black silicon to bond it in and then run a bead round the outside to really hold it in there.
-
Not directly focussed on the wiper delete but you can see roughly how it looks: -

While mine is mainly a track car it is road legal and on a recent trip to Spa when it pissed with rain I had no issues with rear visibility, a few coats of rain-x sorted that out
-
looks good. like the roll cage in there too. what seats and harnesses are they? I'm going to build a clio track car in the new year.
yep my side and rear windows are always rain-x'd
i ordered a gecleant glass one from Obese on the mk5gti forum anyway. looking forward to fitting it.
my milltek and wiper delete should smarten the rear end up nicely... now for a carbon defuser
-
Seats are Sparco Evo's and TRS 5 point harness's

good stuff. proper set up there.
won't be doing that to my golf but for my dedicated track car i will be ripping it apart and going down that route. mainly cos stander 172/1822 seats are crap

Father in law has just purchased a Audi TT tfsi and is now moaning because it came without a rear wiper

Funny you should say that, it wasn't so long ago that a rear wiper was considered a luxury option on a hatchback... well maybe it was a while ago... !! Where's me pipe and slippers?
Full marks to father in law though, most father in laws I know buy Picassos. Mine has an elderly Polo to do his 5 miles a week.

Yeah I remember getting my first car that had a rear wiper and thought I was proper "posh" I just used the wing mirrors and never had a problem.

Talking of mirrors, once upon a time, it was the posh models that had colour coded ones. Now the top models have black ones.
-
And do you notice how many 'trendy' cars (MINI, up!, Beetle for example) now have body coloured interior panels, how long ago was it that base models came with painted metal interior sections and you had to spec up for a few bits of plastic capping to make the interior more 'upmarket', now it's vice versa!
As they say, fashion goes round in circles so I'm going to pre-empt the next trend and rip all my carpets out, replacing them with some crappy rubber!!

It used to be the posh cars that had 2 wing mirrors!

I remember feeling ever so posh when I fitted a passenger door mirror to my base spec Mk2 Cavalier. You should have seen me when I'd colour coded them.
